Ordered my setup just now, only had to order the LT1/LT4 kit and the do it yourself wiring setup. Picked up a PCM out of an '02 Camaro off of ebay for like 75 bucks and a set of coil/brackets/harness/plug wires from a member on here for 90 bucks shipped. Pretty much have everything off of the car waiting on parts to show up now. Also trying to figure out how I am going to mount the coils. Dan from FLP will be handling the tuning portion of the project..

You guys are really going to love it. I have one of the first kits and have been driving it since May. It has really been a good summer, the first summer in 3 years I havn't had any Opti problems.

Got a few minutes, figured I would give a little more info.

The 96-97 Timing cover of course has to be used and up until this point I thought we were going to have to modify the timing cover by welding it to get the reluctor wheel to fit. However, we have clearenced the inside cover enough so the reluctor wheel will work with the a double roller timing chain. I will get pics of this soon. Something else we have thought about doing just for the added 1/8 inch clearence is to double gasket the timing cover (probably not needed, but wouldn't hurt either)

Also trying to figure out how I am going to mount the coils. Dan from FLP will be handling the tuning portion of the project
I made an angled peice of aluminum that bolts to my valvcovers on 4 points, very slick looking. I'll get some pics of that as well. BTW EFI connection just came out with a Coil pack bracket for LTX valvcovers, might want to look into that?

Plan to work on the car this weekend since I will have a little break from school. Have the 4L80E out at the moment too, my PY3600 showed up yesterday along with a few other things. Hopefully I can get some work done.

Please be cautious about shimming out the timing cover as it will move the sensor out as well. It may or may not cause CKP signal loss. I know the gasket thickness is minor, but just keep this in mind.

ak95ta has been great to work with. I have to admit that after making the 24x LT1 harness for his 1999 Trans Am, when I look at my 2000 Firehawk I think about how unique (and electronically seamless) a 24x LT1 would be in the car.

DO IT MIKE!!! You need to put a LT1 in your car. It is a way better engine then the LS1, well with you conversion anyway.

To TA kid, like Mike mentioned above, you need to pay close attention to you reluctor to sensor clearance. Don't let them get too far out of whack, or that double roller timing chain won't be worth the trouble you will have down the road..

The Firehawk has been for sale all summer with no serious inquiries. I don't plan on keeping it. HOWEVER, I'm working on an LT1 buildup for the 91 Trans Am convertible. The car will have 2002 T/A interior and gas tank and run complete LS1 electronics. Instrument cluster, dash, etc. Pretty cool.

Just last week we found out that some double roller timing sets use a crank sprocket that is 0.025" thicker than other crank sprockets. The original crank sprocket is 0.525" thick, the Cloyes double row crank sprocket with single keyway is also 0.525" thick, but the Cloyes double row crank sprocket with three keyways is 0.550" thick. Never tried the thickest sprocket to know if it causes a problem with the sensor range. Kinda goofy that Cloyes would extend the balancer pulley out 0.025".

subscribing, I have been thinking of switching to carb since the car is going to be used more as a drag only car now that the cage is in, but this may be cheeper and better then switching to a carb setup...

Just ordered my conversion kit today. I will let everyone know how it goes. The guys at EFI Connection were very informative on the phone and helped me with all my questions.

Cant wait to try this on my new build.

Trickflow TEA heads, Ultradyne soldid roller, Vic Jr. Intake w/ 90mm TB and elbow, 22lbs of boost.

Hoping for 950+ RWHP

So do they send you connectors to the specific LSx coils that you have, or do you have to get a specific version, or are all the LSx coil connectors the same?

Was on the doorstep when I got home from work tonight, and WOW the pictures do not do any justice for the quality of workmanship that is very apparent in all the parts of the kit. The crank sensor should be in a frame on my wall!! Kinda went through the kit, got some wiring diagrams off of GMDealerworld and did some thinking, going to get started on it tomorrow since I am off for the rest of the week. I will update with pictures and info once I get started!

ok so what did you "DIY" harness converters do for lets say "BLACK 6" on the LT1 it is the ground for multiple items like TPS/Coolant Temp/Trans temp sensor but the LS1 PCM has locations for each of them.

Also like "BLACK 29" is the 5v reference on the LT1 for AC pressure sensor/MAP sensor but the LS1 pcm has seperate supplies for each..

The "right" way to handle those is to run a dedicated wire from the LS1 PCM to each sensor as was implemented in the LS1 engine harnesses. Consider that you're turning your LT1 engine harness into an LS1 engine harness. Well, sorta...

After playing with the harness and probably getting it 90% complete I think I am going to end up calling you and ordering a nice new one tomorrow Mike. After being on the car for 12 years it really has seen it's best years. I am afraid that taking it off of the car and moving it around may have damaged splices and there are some spots that heat have damaged.

Worked on the coil mounting solution today for a little while, one of these day's I am going to get some pics uploaded. Also will be eliminating the TCS module on the driver side valve cover, and doing the passenger side wire and fuel line relocation mod to clean up the engine bay some.

So expect a call tomorrow Mike!
