Question best RTV to use to make sure oil pan seal seals correctly??

As stated which is the best kind to use to insure proper seal on the oil pan. And does the rubber gasket mating surface need to be sanded any or just made sure all oil is removed off of the surface?

Make sure both surfaces are clean of old sealer and oil. You can use any RTV really. I've used black RTV, red RTV, copper RTV, lol. I recently started using permatex's "The Right Stuff - for imports" and it's awesome ****

okay. i have already wiped down all the areas and made sure it is completely clean. All oil and residue has been removed as well as the old gasket material. so i should be good to go right? I just put rtv on the four corner bolts and on the corners of the timing cover where the timing cover gasket stops...correct?

DO NOT USE RED. i have been told by a permatex spokesman that had been with the company since the 80s to never use red on anything for any reason. the reason being, when it cures it gives off silica (sand). gets into your oil, not good for bearings, then makes its way into ur pcv system any takes out ur o2 sensors. the only reason they still sell it is its the best selling product they make. guy said it was the worst product they made.

right stuff rules!!!!!! I did a thin bead around the entire gasket to make sure it sealed. I figure Ill just get a new gasket if I ever need to pull the pan anyways.
PS. Speedinc does the same thing.

Yes, parts store. Its in a pressuriezed cheese whiz can.

I use some very similar stuff I sell for work and its awesome stuff. It's an elastomeric rubber gasket when it dries, not a silicone.

Loctite has similar stuff too

No RTV here (dry gasket all the way around). Seals perfectly.

okay i guess i should have been a little more specific on what i meant when i was referring to the RTV usage. I am using a dry reusable one piece. The main reason i wanted to use the RTV was to aid in keeping the gasket in place while i slid the oil pan into place. it is all bolted up now so thank you for everyone's advice
