Default Brand new U-Joint asploaded 3000miles later...

air bags deployed.... great

story: was looking at some crazy accident on I195E in jersey, and I went to proceed to move faster from 5mph... all the sudden BLAM and my airbags went off. I thought the guy behind me rear ended me. I tried to move my car and I felt that driveshaft just flopping. I thought ****, so my buddy got out and we pushed the car to the side. The rear U joint asploded and i guess hit under the car and set the airbags off.

Lesson 1: first mod should be drive-shaft safety loop.

Lesson 2: U joints with grease fittings are fail.

Now my question is, what the hell do I have to do if my airbags went off, what am I looking at besides a new windshield?

Thanks... and im all cause my car is dead

lookin around they are not that expensive. I replace the airbags but what else? the module under the center console?

No modules should have to be replaced, unless it was physically damaged (and I can't see how yours would be from a driveshaft).

very cool. you have no idea how dumbfounded I was. I am buying a driveshaft safety loop as we speak...

are you SURE i do not need to replace the module under the console? I thought once it gets set off it has to be replaced

Nope, from what I understand the module is dumb and works regardless if it sets off the airbags or not. One thing you are gonna need is a good vacuum as that damn white powder from the airbags (corn starch I believe) get's f'in everywhere. I know too!!!

Holy ****.. I'd be pissed..

I disconnected my Driver's side cause I wear Glasses and I don't feel like them shattering into my face if the AB went off. This makes me leary of the Passenger's side..then again I have a DS Loop so I guess that helps.

Yea man..they kill the Windshield, just the design of it.

It may have knocked your glasses off your face cause you were still in the Seat..visualize a 25mph impact to where you actually move forward as the Seat Belt catches..that Air Bag will mess up your face.

Got off the phone with the insurance company. They said since I have a good plan (thanks to my mom being a great mom!) and our family has no speeding tickets or accidents, they will cover the airbag and windshield damage. the driveshaft damage is on my shoulders.

Took a look under the car real quick before i went to work, NO undercarrige damage and the exhaust/TA is fine. the driveshaft is fubard though. I can throw my stocker back in and i have a D/S loop comin from BMR.

The adjuster has to come out and make the final decision. I think he will do it because we know him well

You should figure out what failed on that driveshaft. Ive put some real abuse on mine and have never had a problem in over a year.

Mine are Spicer U-Joints from Napa..I put them in all my Driveshafts. I have a LS1 Alum Driveshaft in the Car, and a 1LE Alum one as a backup, both with Spicer Joints.
