Default 383 Machine Work

So I am going to make my LT1 a forged 383 stroker. However, what need's to be done to the block in order to accommodate the stroker? And how much would I be looking at? Also what are some good places that can do it? Thanks.

Deck, Aline hone mains, bore and hone cylinders. Should be done on ANY good build. You will also need to have the block clearanced for the rod bolts because of the extra stroke.

Thanks guys for the info! Do you know how much a shop would usually charge for that? Just a ballpark estimate.

700-800 in machining labor. We sell fully machined and clearanced blocks with ARP studs ready for assembly for about $1000

well dependant on if you want to keep a stock pan or go to a more stroker-friendly one. even with i beams on my 383 with "stroker" ARP bolts I still had to clearance the oil pan some. the pan rail is the area that is questionable mostly as I didn't have to but others with beefier rods or larger crank throws had to.

Alright, I'll do my research. Thanks guys. Oh ya, so can I go to the machine shop and ask them to the work for a 383 or do I have to tell them every thing what to do?

I think it cost me around $450 or so for all my machine work

-deck
-bore
-hone
-hot tank
-cam bearings
-freeze plugs

I did the 383 clearancing myself, it's not hard but then again I had probably the most clearancing friendly kit of all

make sure you have the mains aline honed or you will kick yourself in the *** later... Also to make sure that everything is clearanced correctly you want them to have your rotating assembly in hand, to physically test fit and check the rod bolt to block clearance.

Something to think about also with any lt1 stroker is to have the block tapped for some 4blt splayed main caps. Its about 400 extra dollars but good insurance.
