Default what to apply on head bolts???

This came from a ford guy but he said that for the head bolts that enter in a water passage he uses ultra copper permatex. Will this work or would you all suggest against this. This guy has been building ford motors for many years and has put down 500+ (F.I. Motors) on all his motors and has never has a problem. This is why i would trust his judgment but figured i was ask first.

ARP just suggests that you seal the bolts that go into a water passage. If the guy is an experienced builder, regardless of brand, the same will hold true. I'd go for his suggestion. Copper is also an exceptional sealer and that's probably why he likes to use it.

I would not use any RTV that could get into the cooling system. I won't break down and can cause clogs. For bolts, you use thread sealant made for that purpose.

Permatex or thread sealant will work fine. Just make sure to only use it on the bolts that tap into water jackets. The ones that don't just use a very light (VERY LIGHT) dab of oil on the threads.

RTV gasket maker on cylinder head bolt threads?

I'm more comfortable using thread sealant to seal the threads. Makes sense when you spell it out.

RTV is also a sealant. I've used it multiple times. No problems. As stated, pick your poison.

Use whatever the bolt manufacturer recommends for their product. No need to re-invent the wheel here.
