1. Heat your tires up, 18 psi is probably optimal for Nittos.
2. Stay away from the M/T ET street radials. They will break parts.
3. If your shocks are adjustable, set them on the softest setting and go up from there.
4. Use finesse with your clutch. This is in the realm of practice and the seat of the pants feel. Try different rpm settings while slipping the clutch to maximize traction and lessen wheelhop. Pick a deserted warehouse lot that has weathered concrete, not asphalt. The trip to a prepped strip will be a little different but you'll have the technique.
5. If you are really worried about your u-joints and drive shaft buy some bias ply slicks and front runners. They will impart less shock to the drive train than the drag radials. If you are thinking about low 12's or less you will probably end up doing this anyway. Hoosier quick time pros have a DOT number to show the cops. You can go quick on dr's, just saying. My 60's on 245/45/17 Nitto dr's are from 1.86 to 1.90 but I'm looking forward to the Hoosiers from a little practice done in 40 degree temps with tires not very well warmed up.
6. December is bench racing for us up a little farther north but in your climate I expect a progress report.
