Default Question about 42lb injectors?

I bought my car a couple years ago, and the kid I bought it from gave me the old build sheet with it. It says it has Lucas 42lb injectors. That seems huge to me. Its a mostly stock engine, mild cam, CAI etc. Should I swap to something smaller?

Maybe some tuners on here can help. But mine suggested 36lb'ers for my build for stock cubes and heads with a honken cam!

As long as the PCM is tuned for it you're fine. 42# are large, but likely not 'overkill'. Now if you were up in the 60#+ range, that'd be a different story.

How large is the cam, and what type of porting was done?

Not sure what type of porting was done, he told me they "took a lot of meat out" but didnt really have much more info than that. As far as the cam, I have no idea how to read the specs sheet, but here's a link to the scanned copy of it. Sorry its fuzzy, it's all I've got

Yeah, I can't read that - don't have a Snapfish account.

That's the CC503 - a very common and well-liked LT1 cam.

I think the 42#s should be fine for you. How does it idle?

Like crap. I've had nothing but problems with the car, and it runs a slower E/T than my buddy's mostly stock LT1 car

Hm. I see "aftermarket computer," but who did the tuning? Perhaps it's time for an update.

You could also try swapping in a stock set of 24# injectors picked up for cheap and see if that helps (along with a tune, of course).

The tune was done by PCMforless.com I believe. I've been searching for info on the company on here, and see quite a few people arent happy with the tune. Quite a few mentioned running rich, which I think I may be as well.

Do you still have AIR and EGR? An adjustable fuelpressure regulator would help you dial it in! I wish there was a way to run in Power Enrichment mode all the time!

Yup, still have both unfortunately. Still learning as I go, and a bit worried about chopping stuff up! My boyfriend has offered to help me with that though, I may take him up on it.

Yes, you know I just found out my AIR check valves and EGR were bad and they did not throw a code. Talk about an exhaust leak! It's all about keeping it cool at idle, that's when things get HOT.

Don't listen to 1 Craz28...please.

An adjustable fuel pressure regulator, at your power level, will not do you any good. Any change you make in fuel pressure will be corrected by injector pulsewidth.

AIR and EGR should have no effect on how the car idles.

Bryan @ PCMforless always tunes slightly to the rich side. You may want to consider getting a good dyno-tune. Where are you located?

I'm in Victoria, BC, Canada, on a god forsaken island in the Pacific Northwest

There's 2 dynos on the island. One is owned by the porsche club, and you can't use it unless you're a member. The other is in a "tuner shop" that specializes in severely ******* up every honda engine they get their hands on - Needless to say, they won't be touching my baby! Vancouver is a 1.5 hour ferry ride from here, there's a few decent shops over there that can dyno tune it, but I'd have to take a full day off work, plus pay over $100 for the ferry trip

42# injectors are fine for they setup as long as the tune is set up for them.

It might be a good idea to do a little troubleshooting and datalogging and determine why it's running so rich.
It's entirely possible that you have a leaky header gasket causing the car to run rich
or an issue with the ignition not firing properly.

i got some 28's plus cash ill trade ya for the 42's... hehe

the 42's should be perfect for a nice heads/cam motor. as long as the tune is for them.

just get a good tune and im sure it will be a lot nicer. its probably got a bad tune. pcmforless usually does good stuff. perhaps it really was not by them? is there any way you can pull the tune off with a laptop and let someone look at it?
