How do you remove the charcoal canister from the bracket under the driver's side rear wheel well. Its held in by some sort of bracket thing.

 

It is a plastic strap that clips together. If you do not plan to replace it, give it a hard yank. Otherwise, get a long flat head screw driver and unhook the clip from the back.

 

grab the bottom part of the canister with your right hand and pull it towards you. Then with the left hand grab the top and pull it. takes a little force to pop it out

 

So i basically just have to pull it out, or will it slide out? if anyones got any pictures with more detail it'll help a lot.

I'm going to replace it just cause i have to pass inspection so i can't break the bracket.

My canister and purse solenoid (side of the intake manifold, in case I messed the name up) are pretty damn new from the factory and only have some 700 miles of usage.

I suggest you use the flat head screw driver to undo that strap.
or move the ends apart from each other vertically, while using the screwdriver.

yank it out. It will feel or sound like your gonna break something buti t wont. To put the new one in: Put the top part in the mount first on an angle then push the bottom part in. It should just snap in. Dont be afraid to use a little force

 

What about the parts on the intake? I've got a small-square looking part, on the passenger side of the intake. Im guessing thats the solenoid...What do I do with all that stuff, far as removal goes? I'd like to get rid of that crap myself.

 

just get rid of it. Close all the vacuums that need it.

You'll get a code, tune it out.

 

Pull your skirt up and yank all that trash out of the Wheel Well..it's all pretty much junk.

Remove all the Lines and Solenoid, clip the Connector if you want, and cap the one port off that is on the Intake that it gets the Vacuum from. Cut the plastic EVAP Line that runs with the Fuel Lines and stuff it in the Wheel Well.

 

so when deleting the evap, can i plug the vacum line under the drivers door? or where do i plug it off at besides the intake?

 

I'm curious to this whole process as well. Not to try an hijack the thread but, I'm getting ready to throw on some LTs and would like to clean up the engine bay as much as possible. I've already ordered the EGR delete and will be loosing the AIR system, I will also will be getting the ABS delete kit soon. If I can get rid of the EVAP stuff I might be able to see an engine under all those hoses and vacuum lines finally.

 

Don't forget to vent the gas tank some how or pressure will build up and be potentially dangerous. A vented cap or drilled OEM cap will work.

 

I removed everything under my hood that has to do with emissions and pretty much most of my vacumm lines that deal with or around the a/c and heat components. All of that's gone as well. Am I good to remove the EVAP **** in the rear. Not sure I'm following this whole drilling a hole in the fuel cap thing though. Am I using this at all or can it go to eliminate weight?????

 

can you use the old school styl venting method? they had a plastic vent cap on the vent line. or can you leave the vent line open?

 

So am I understanding right, if you want to loose it all you can just buy a vented gas cap? The gas door isn't near air-tight so I would imagine any vapors would just escape there? If you went that route could you drop the cannister in the rear and everything going up to the engine from the fuel tank aside from the fuel lines?
Like I said before I would just like to remove as much clutter as I can so I can find that engine finally.

 

I have the factory Vent on mine still and never had any problems or built up pressure..

 

Are you referring to that white golf ball size thing under the car near the lines? I thought that was a one way valve only letting air into the tank but not out. I could be wrong.

If it is a one way valve (in only), how do you allow the tank to bleed off excess pressure? Is there another vent?

 

Na I dont have anything like that..I pulled my Panel, looked at the Sending Unit..capped the EVAP, and ran a straight line from the Vent Line down the side of the Tank where the Factory one pretty much was..it's just a vent from what I could tell.

It doesnt build up pressure and hasn't blown up yet so I think it's good.

 

can i just leave the line under the car open? or will it leak fuel?
