4l60 is like 175#s a th350 is 135#s and the 400 is 145#s if i remember right..

That why you go with a manual valve body.

That sounds amazing! Now hopefully the job market holds up while I'm in college and stays good when I graduate!

I think a TH350 or TH400 would both suit Mike awesome

Job market is poop.. That is of course, depending on what you plan on doing after you graduate. I'm in medical school so hopefully that field will still be decent (assuming 'bama's universal healthcare plan fails).

You should make a full write up of the swap, should make a good thread.

I am calculating the price of the parts and gathering up a list of what I need, its quite some $$, but being the lifetime transmission insurance that a TH400 is going to be, it will be well worth it.

What's your motor going to be like? You may be better off with a TH350. Also, there are already write-ups on this forum on TH350/400 swaps.

Just found out we will be paid our overtime 3 months late

So I can't convert to carb and TH400, or even afford the 24x conversion and get it running at least.

But for the low price the owner is asking for it, I would buy it and keep it aside until I finally decide to swap it in after I snap the internals of the 4L60E in half lol

WTF? Get paid 3 months late??? Screw that, the company could be bankrupt by then and you wont get squat.

Anyone have a total price for a swap like this?

Maybe by "installed" he meant including labor. Because that is quite a hefty price just for a transmission swap lol even if you include the stall!

BTW, its only the overtime that is going to be paid late, my normal salary and allowances will be paid. And its a government owned airline. Too much money to be swept under the carpets for it to ever go bust

Do you guys know how heavy a drive shaft would be? I mean, roughly. I'm talking the custom one I need for the install.

If you do the work yourself, you can get a pretty bulletproof setup for $1,500-$2,000.. I paid around a grand, give or take - but I got some of the things in trades that I made.

Depends on the length and material really.. I have a 6in tailshaft trans (so the driveshaft was made longer) and I forgot what material was used, but it's a heavy son of a bitch, and practically unbreakable. I think mine was like 25lbs or something.. Can't quite recall.

the trans was $1500, everything adds up though. no short cuts and doing things the right way the first time costs a little more lol

Lets see, i bought a trans with the 9in tailshaft from a local junkyard for $50, bought a basic rebuild kit for $100 from D&E performance and rebuilt it at my shop, then my converter was $650. So i have about $800 in the whole thing. All i need is my shifter and some lines and fittings.

Damn, and I thought mine is going to be a steal lol I am getting the TH400 for 80$ but its in full working condition.

I will still take it apart and rebuild it and keep it aside until I decide what route to take.

What converter did you go with?

i'd say 2500ish for a good TH400 RMVB, hardened input shaft, good transbrake, etc. 1k for a converter + flexplate, scattershield, lines, cooler, crossmember, fluid, etc. I wouldn't go TH350... can be cheaper to build a good TH400 that will actually live with a transbrake.

Been contemplating this swap as well as going solid roller and carb'd, they all go hand in hand unfortunately... and the cost is looking pretty high right now for me
