LT1 with TH400?
Been contemplating this swap as well as going solid roller and carb'd, they all go hand in hand unfortunately... and the cost is looking pretty high right now for me

Whats the best rebuild I can do on it? GM clutches or go aftermarket?
I haven't rebuilt an auto since I graduated from technical high school. Its more fun than manuals.
Going to order a rebuild kit from a site that a member on here recommended. This should be fun.
Next, I will get a stall, and order a carb conversion intake and a good carburetor, fuel regulator and some braided lines run after the fuel filter, MSD distributor.
Can I reuse the stock shift lever and cable or do I need an aftermarket?

I could always install an aftermarket after I get the car registered for the year.
I am going to be using it fully auto, and it will maybe see the track once a year, twice if its lucky.

$2500? Good TH400 RMVB, hardened input shaft, good transbrake here for $1,100. Built at a local tranny shop that builds for most of the Outlaw cars in the area. I could see $2500 for a max effort, 1000+hp race car. The 1k for everything else is pretty close.
that price was for a billet input and intermediate shaft, my error. I was saying 1k just for the converter though. If the OP wants to run a B&M converter, then good luck to him. I still don't like the idea of a TH350 on a tbrake compared to a TH400, ask those racers what their maintenance and trans lifespan is like. If the OP is on a budget and never plans on going fast... then a 1k dollar build will suit him fine.A note to the OP... your trans and fluid are NOT going to like running any sort of 3500+ converter with a 2.73 gear, you'll burn it up real fast. Need to match the gear and converter if the car sees mostly street time,

I won't get more stall than I need, and I am getting a rebuild kit for the transmission.
But how much do I need?
I won't cheap out on the TC especially when I have spent so much on the car, and as I plan to invest in rebuilding my transmission, I also want it to last for very long.
I won't drive it everyday, I have a DD, but I do love to drive it when I get a chance and drive it HARD!
