Been contemplating this swap as well as going solid roller and carb'd, they all go hand in hand unfortunately... and the cost is looking pretty high right now for me
Maybe I'm just biased.. but it's extremely cheap to build a bulletproof TH350 (same ballpark as a TH400 or cheaper) and safely use a trans-brake. I personally know cars that run in local classes like True street and heavy street that use TH350's and run 8's and 9's..

I want it to shift auto, will definitely install a shift kit on it.

Whats the best rebuild I can do on it? GM clutches or go aftermarket?

I haven't rebuilt an auto since I graduated from technical high school. Its more fun than manuals.

imo your going way too overkill for a little cc503 cam only car, i would have the 4l60e built and retain your drivability, im running a built 4l60 with h/c/i and no problem from the trans, even with a 3200 vigilante stall

Picked it up, the case is in desperate need of cleaning. Got the stock stall, will try to sell that and get some money back.

Going to order a rebuild kit from a site that a member on here recommended. This should be fun.

Next, I will get a stall, and order a carb conversion intake and a good carburetor, fuel regulator and some braided lines run after the fuel filter, MSD distributor.

Can I reuse the stock shift lever and cable or do I need an aftermarket?

Go with an aftermarket shifter, especially if you're going manual valvebody

Well, my inspection is coming up in a couple of months, and the inspectors here are **** about everything. Even vinyls can get you a fine. So, a stock shift lever would be preferred unless I NEED an aftermarket.

I could always install an aftermarket after I get the car registered for the year.

I am going to be using it fully auto, and it will maybe see the track once a year, twice if its lucky.

Then yes, a factory shifter can be used.. You may have to look into it. I'm not sure how to make it work, but I know people have done it..

I got the transmission for a good price, my 4L60E is on the end of its life and I am going carb.

Not to mention I drive my car like I stole it

I might start tracking the car, who knows?

$2500? Good TH400 RMVB, hardened input shaft, good transbrake here for $1,100. Built at a local tranny shop that builds for most of the Outlaw cars in the area. I could see $2500 for a max effort, 1000+hp race car. The 1k for everything else is pretty close.

Just bought my TH400 from Coan, along with a nice 8" converter.

That's what they run around here for the builder I would use him supplying the core... must be that CA luxury tax that price was for a billet input and intermediate shaft, my error. I was saying 1k just for the converter though. If the OP wants to run a B&M converter, then good luck to him. I still don't like the idea of a TH350 on a tbrake compared to a TH400, ask those racers what their maintenance and trans lifespan is like. If the OP is on a budget and never plans on going fast... then a 1k dollar build will suit him fine.

A note to the OP... your trans and fluid are NOT going to like running any sort of 3500+ converter with a 2.73 gear, you'll burn it up real fast. Need to match the gear and converter if the car sees mostly street time,

I paid $400 for a PTC nitrous converter. I agree on the th350/th400 comparison. I guess it depends on what your definition of "fast" is.

How fast is fast?

I won't get more stall than I need, and I am getting a rebuild kit for the transmission.

But how much do I need?

I won't cheap out on the TC especially when I have spent so much on the car, and as I plan to invest in rebuilding my transmission, I also want it to last for very long.

I won't drive it everyday, I have a DD, but I do love to drive it when I get a chance and drive it HARD!

I am still on the 2.73s, but I would love to swap onto 3.73s.

3.73s would be a good match to a 3500 stall IMO. Don't count on getting anything close to good gas mileage around town, lol especially when you swap a carb on there
