Default Steering shaft is off 180*, how to fix?

Ok I replaced my rack a couple days ago and got an alignment today. Seems as though the steering wheel may have moved when I put it all back together and I didn't notice. Me and my buddy at Sears aligned it and the only way to get everything in spec was with the steering wheel all the way upside down. Here is my question. Can I just turn the wheels straight, disconnect the steering coupler, get in the car and turn the wheel right side up, then reconnect the steering coupler with it all clocked correctly? I hear the air bags may go off when you turn the wheel as its not connected to the rack so is that possible? Should I disconnect the battery when doing this?

You probably installed the steering linkage 180-out. Just disconnect it, turn the wheel 180 degrees, and reinstall it.

^^ just what i was going to say. Straighten your wheels out as best you can, and then disconnect the linkage, and go in and put your wheel where it should be, you should be able to reconnect the linkage. If not, you have something else wrong. But as long as you didnt move the steering wheel on its splines, this should be easy to fix.

Yes..no you don't need to dis-connect the Battery.

Airbags aren't going to go off but you can quite easily break the SIR coil resulting in an airbag light and disabled system.

Haha could be that I made that up but I swear I heard or read something about the air bag going off. Oh well who knows. I guess I'll just reclock the wheel and call it a day.

You know this section isn't near as entertaining without a certain crazy member that quite possibly owns a Z28. All of these posts are related to people actually doing something

Just as a reference for anybody...no I did not get killed with the airbag by turning the wheel with the linkage removed.

Did you make sure the SIR coil is aligned though?
