Default Which cam?

So I read the cam stickie and that is confusing to me. SO basically where I am getting at is what is a good cam? I have a 95 z28 lt1. It has headers, ory, cutout, and intake. Nothing fancy! More stuff to come. What cam should I run on this set up? Something that has a pretty radical lope to it but not to ridiculous? What would you guys suggest? I know bigger is not always better, that is why I am asking you guys.

No offense but the cam guide is pretty straight forward. I'd suggest re-reading it. It helped me tons on figuring out what I wanted to do with my other LT1. I also have a pretty good idea on what I want with my current Camaro when the time comes. I'd suggest if your an auto then go with a high stall TC and some gears before jumping to a cam. But thats not what you asked so....
Go with a custom grind since you didn't give specific goals that you wanted to meet. Call a sponsor and they can help set it straight. They will tell you the need to know stuff and help you figure out what you want out of your car.

Do you plan to boost This year? SPray? If so then get a cam that will be setup for what your going to get. Build once not 2x unless your rich!

I do not plan to boost, spray nothing. Only other mods will be heads and port work. BTW its a 6 speed so no stall or TC needed here. Sorry I did not mention that earlier. My goals really are maximum performance of the set up described with a radical lope.

Edit: DO you have to change springs, valve, retainer clips when changing a cam or no?

Your best bet is going to be looking in the lt1 dyno archive and see what kind of power guys have made with different cams. I'd also search through the multimedia on here or youtube to hear cammed fbodies.

I would suggest an le2 cam...great power and a nasty lope.

Those are shorty headers of some kind, and picking a cam that has a "radical lope" is retarded

And picking a cam based on the highest dyno list isn't great either, if you're just looking at peak numbers...

The best cam for you is one that has the proper VALVE EVENTS.

those are the air fittings, if you dont have to have emissions testing get some race only versions so you can delete that worthless crap

Thanks for all the input. Yes here in texas we have to get emissions tested. Sort of sucks but.... Is it going to hurt anything? What goes in those air ports?

No bigger than the cc503 if you have to pass emissions and then only when the PCM is tuned for all your mods together. AIR pump puts air in those tubes during open loop to get the cat(s) up to temperature faster than they would without. It turns off in closed loop operation. Deletion will earn only the HP you gain by not turning its pulley. In Texas if they do a visual check for emissions components you won't get away with in unless you 'know' somebody...

Also, trade the shorties for some long tubes with a Y pipe to match or go true duals...

Deleting the AIR pump will gain zero HP. An LT1s AIR pump is not driven by a belt - it's an electric motor.

You will need O2 simms or have the rear O2s programmed out to fool the diagnostic scan. Any SES light will fail your car. You'll also have to put up with the visual inspection, because a "nasty lope" will likely give you away.

cc503 cam is an excellent cam for a stock bottom end car. it has a great lope and tons of torque.

the cc503 is the biggest most people, myself included would recommend going with for an engine with a stock bottom/top end. once you go with a ported top end you can go a little bigger. cams like the GM 847 or cc306 are better for forged engines because of how high you have to rev to make power. those cams kick in at 34-3600 rpm and keep making power at 7000 rpm.

yea the cc503 is one of the best overall cams out there. i dont see any reason to really even go smaller. the power band starts low and pulls everywhere. it will put down great numbers with a good set of heads also.

Well I believe I have made up my mind and decided to go with the cc503. Now in its description it talks about a stall. Mine is a 6 speed that does not matter does it? Also is there anything else that I will need to change? IE: valve, springs, rods, retainers?? Thanks for all your help!
