Default Rebuilt transmission install

Hey all,

I am looking to buy a '95 z28, and I have a budget of max $2500 to get a reasonably running car. I have found one listed that I could likely get for below $1000, but the transmission will not go into reverse. Would it be worth my time and money to buy this thing cheap and have a rebuilt manual transmission installed (i.e. how much would that cost), or should I just wait on another deal?

I debated on whether to put this in the whats it worth section, so I apologize if this needs to be moved.

Thanks

Depends on a4/m6 And if it is a m6 cost can get driven up alot depending what is all tore up in the trans.

You can find junkyard a4's cheap to just get it going

Sorry I did not clarify - I was planning to either have them rebuild the T56 or find another one in good enough shape to just have it installed.

I suppose i could lol.... gotta buy some equipment to actually get it out of there though. I think the wife would hit me with the sledgehammer if I came home one day with a cherry picker and a hoist.

Simple tools, a 24" extension, and a couple of Ramps and you can get it out..

Get some friends and Beer, and it goes alot quicker.

The key is having the car as high in the air as possible and some long *** extensions, 24"+. I recommend using a tranny jack to get the trans back in but if you have some nice pieces of wood sitting around you could put them on a floor jack and make it work. With the above covered you will be good to go.

My bad I was under the impression the motor had to come out to pull the tranny. Shows how much I know about this stuff. Anyway I have some buddies who are a bit more knowledgeable about this stuff, I will see if they wanna help. Sounds like a fun project.

+1 on the trans jack. You can rent them for a few bucks and they are well worth it.

I didn't have one for my trans install though. I put my trans up on blocks and lowered the car onto it via the lift. Piece of cake!

I had no problem benching my auto up into place, so a manual should be easier.
