Default EFI Connection LS1 coil conversion for LT1?

Has anyone done the EFI Connection LS1 coil pac conversion on and 96-97 LT1? Pros and Cons? Is it worth the $2000 cost. Just sick of the Opti spark. Thanks Lee

Different people will have different reasons, optis have been fine by me so that wasn't my reason at all. I wanted to the tuning capabilities of the ls1 PCM, so for me it was worth it. If I had say a 95 and not a 93, I would have kept the stock PCM and had some one like Moe Bailey tune it. I didn't see the point in doing the work converting it to a 95 PCM when I could do this set up. You already have the timing cover you need, so your a step ahead off the bat.

I bought the entire kit with the custom plug and play wiring harness for several reasons, the LT1 is already fazed out, there are fewer and fewer dyno shops that even tune LT1 stuff. I also liked the better pcm and tuneability that you get and parts will be easier to find because the LSx is here to stay and the biggest reason was getting rid of the opti and it's flaws and failures plus the stronger spark of individual coils for each cylinder. So for me it was worth every penny.

As old as the wiring is now on the cars, it kind of makes sense to get the whole harness new. And I don't trust myself on the diy deal...

My reasons for doing this swap are tune-ability and coil packs too.

I'll let you know how I like mine after it comes out of hibernation and gets tuned...;-) But the quality of the parts is awesome, and customer service from Mike is great.

I bought the harness from Mike, I hate wiring and Chris @ EFI Alchemy had nothing but great things to say about the set up.

I know this is an old thread but.... I was wondering if anybody had pictures of this conversion and what it all entails? I am wanting to do a 383 stroker this coming summer with an LT4 hot cam and it sounds like a great opportunity to do something like this! How easily does an LS ECU tune for Gen II performance upgrades? Any more detailed info on this conversion would be appreciated! Thanks.

What about fuel injectors? Are the LSx and LT1 injectors different?

I just installed mine this year with the diy harness kit and it was easy to do for anyone to do themselves. I found my kit used for a great deal and was planning to do it down the road. I did it for the same reasons as everyone else has described. Way more tuners out there for LS then LT nowadays and hard to find a good tuner. Reliability factor of ditching the opti is always high on everyones books that does have the endless problems. Plus the fact of the new faster pcm and being able to run in obd2 to make it alot easier to pinpoint problems. Overall im really happy with my setup and im just in the stages of final tweaks in the tune.

95mysticta,

That was the issue I had, tons of great tuners for the LS based cars, very few guys still touch the LT1s. No one local here in Houston.

Injectors are fine, I kept my SVO Red Tops which is what I had with the 93 LT1 ECM. The earlier Gen 3 LS1 stuff I believe can be interchanged as they are taller bodied when compared to the later Gen IV LS injectors but still retail the older EV1 style connector. The later stuff I am not sure if they are still EV1, believe them to be EV6-USCAR and I also believe the injector body is shorter on the later Gen IV stuff.

I'm gonna kind of hi-jack a bit here...I see you've done this conversion on a '93? How much harder is it to than the '94+ cars? If you could give me some detailed explanation that would be awesome! You can PM if you want.

Can those parts be used for a future LS/LQ swap as well?

Not much my car is a 93 any more, the oil pressure sending unit, intake manifold and fuel rails are about the only thing 93 left on the car. Most every thing is changed to stuff from later cars or after market. On a stock 93 you would just need to pay attention to some things like the IAC valve connector being different, that and the trans. My 93 has a '96 T56 in it so that wasn't an issue.
