My car almost always smells of gas, but never have been able to figure it out or pinpoint it.....how can you check your charcoal cannister or evap lines? Can you see it from the bottom?

no.. no cat. took it off but it was gutted when i took it off. didn't know that.. and never had this code once or more before but it went away for the past like 3 months and came back today all of a sudden.. idk whats wrong.. i tried starting it earlier and it idle'd around 3-400 and died. happened twice.. until i finally gave it gas to stay on.. then after a minute it stayed on.. and this was after the 30 min cruise..

I'm with him. Check those fuel lines!!! they run right under the drive side up in to the front fender. My wifes 94, she had a gas smell and it ended up being a the line. a stone or somrthing got kick up just right and cracked that line just under the driver floor board. Had to have her cycle the key while it was pressurized to find it.

usually if it is a real bad smell it is the plastic lines that they used are leaking. if it is just a light smell it could be several things as stated above like canister, evap hoses, fuel rail, ect. The evap hoses are like the first things to go on these cars. they are on the left side of the intake I think and usually they go bad and most of the time don't throw a code.

My car had a strong smell of gas from under the hood only when the car was running, ended-up being the #7 spark plug had worked it's way loose and was blowing-by.
