Slack in the timing chain yeah is a considerable amount (I have said the same thing to myself! maybe thats why it keeps getting gas in the exhaust?), this is how it was when i took it apart, this motor was all sorts of fucked, and as for this rocker flat part thing what is everyone talking about? thank you for the people who are actually supporting my build!

The position is fine. Before the timing chain goes on you can spin the cam gear one way and the crank another several times over, line up the dots and it will still be at TDC on #6.

OP- You need to do some homework before doing this again, or at least have someone w/ you who knows what they're doing. It seems you know enough to get yourself in trouble, but when you are to the point of "just want this project to be over..." you could be on the way to making careless and costly mistakes. Do yourself a favor and pick up some "how to build a small block chevy" books like these two:

I'm sure any good bookstore will have them. You'll be amazed at what you can learn.

Like everyone else has said take that rocker back off and the center of it will twist over. Theres a flat side and a rounded side if you put the flat side up like its supposed to be it will give you the threads needed to put the polylock on.

Yeah the middle part there's a flat side and a rounded side all the flats need to be up. If I were you I would for sure replace that timing chain while you're in there and since one stud is broke if their stock, which I assume they are, get a set of arp studs. Their less the $40 from summit and you never have to worry about them

It doesn't look broken. It looks distorted from possibly a set screw being torqued on it a little too much. The slack in the timing chain is completely normal for a link bar style chain(what you have).

Be prepared to catch more **** for your unsanitary working conditions. Make doubly sure when you button the top back up you get all that crap off the heads and oil valley.

X2!!! Holy hell dude, pay attention! Valve Lash HAS to be set! If you tighten them down without doing it PROPERLY you will **** EVERYTHING up! Seriously dude! You say everyone needs to calm down but you are missing BASIC steps! You are about to put it back togetherwrong and spend thousnads because you are going to trash your engine!

Also, are those STOCK pushrods? What lift are your springs and what lifters did you use? You DO know you HAVE to measure pushrod length right??? If you dont, that could be ALMOST as bad as setting lash incorrectly!

Next, Is the plug for your Oil Pressure Sensor STILL in the sensor?? If it is you REALLY need to get that harness fixed BEFORE you start this engine! Otherwise you wont know what Oil Pressure you have and after a build like that OP is CRUCIAL! It will tell you if anything is wrong before everything blows up!

Another thing, just a word of advice, dont lay poly locks and small objects inside your lifter valley! It could EASILY fall down into the engine and **** you life up.

And did you lose your motor mount bolts too?? Did you ever find your Crank Hub Bolt?
