Default How heavy is an LT1?

How heavy is an LT1? I tried searching through the forums, and googling it, and came up with nothing.

I'm asking because we're pulling the engine out of mine this weekend, and unfortunately, we have to do it on the gravel area at the top of our driveway. There's no paved spots, and to get the engine into the house, and onto an engine stand, they guys are going to have to move it about 120 feet. We were thinking of dropping it out onto a spare tire, and having them drag it down in that (yup, hella redneck, I know).

Anyone know the approximate weight? I'm wondering how many of my boyfriend's buddies I'm going to have to pay off with steak and beer to do this!

Oh hey fellow BC Canadian!!

Im not sure for sure, but an LS1 and M6 weights about 503 pounds, so depending on the weight of an m6, kind of gives you an idea?

Hmm, ok. Mine's an automatic as well, so probably even heavier! Yikes.

What part of BC do you live in?

Ummm... nope

I've got an '83 Subaru Brat 4x4 that I'm putting a lift kit in, but I'd hardly call that a truck. Offshore El Camino, maybe, but not a truck lol. Anyways, the motor is all ripped apart in that at the moment as well. Sigh. Too many projects...

Are you completely rebuilding the engine, if so break it down where you pull it out and carry it piece by piece to the house? Also Jeg's and Summit sell these llittle handles that screw into the block and then 2 to 4 people can carry the shortblock.

It took four men to lift my LT1 off of the k-member and on to the stand. Four men could carry it that far in stages but you better have a buncha beer and the GOOD steak plus be prepeared for a mucho bad language. Hell fire this sum bitch weighs a #$%^ing ton. Glad we could be the human #$%^ing forklift for you honey.

I would put it in a tire or on a sheet of plywood and chain whichever to any vehicle using a safe and solid dragging point and drag it where it needs to go.

If the Egyptions could move those big *** boulders with only levers and logs, you should be able to come up with a method to do this. Whatever you do, its gonna be Redneck. I suggest you film it and post it.

Put a tire on a piece of plywood and then set the engine on the tire, or get as many as you can and hork it onto the back of a pickup.

you could always drop it from the bottom and leave it on the K-member/wheels and by using the tranny do the wheel-borrow method to get it closer to the house and then seperate it and have 4 big guys carry it in..
