Default LT1 aftermarket oil pan, info would be great!

So yeah I was looking to get an aftermarket pan for oil capacity all though everything I've read is the 5 and half qt pan. That what is already on there isn't it. I was told that I may need to get a bigger pan with my oil starvation problem so I was going to swap the pan and get another oil pump to see if this solves my problem. I was leaning towards a canton, i seen the 242T and it looks nice but not sure if this is what I should get or not. Any info would be great, thanks alot!

i'm not familiar with the clearances under the car, but could you weld add-on sumps to the left and right side of the pan?

So does anyone know of any aftermarket pans for a 355 LT1 that will hold more oil and help with starvation problems?

I have the canton pan, never had a problem with it, its baffled, has a (windage?)tray and If I remember right a crank scraper, so It has all the goodies. Bit on the expensive side for a pan though.

IMO it'd be better to find out why your pump is cavitating. Putting a larger capacity pan may not fix the problem especially if it is a windage issue. The 242t pan has been known to cause windage issues running over 5.5 quarts so not sure that would fix your problem either.
Are you running a high volume pump?

Any advantages on running an aftermarket pan, if you don't run more than 5.5 quarts?

Depends on the windage tray. The Canton one, even though does clearance stroker cranks well, has windage issues even with stock stroke engines.

So how does one find the cavitating issue out???? I was told by my machinist that the pump is working if it is pumping oil to the point of getting warm. If the pickup fell off it would not be getting pressure but for a split second when all the oil is a the bottom which makes since. They then told me that the motor was starving oil on the bottom more or less and stated that I may need to restrict the motor with a plug on the rear of the block. I have yet to hear of lt1's needing this, but every car is different apparently. I was thinking that if it was a windage issue that i would install a milodon windage tray, with a new SV melling HP pump and a new pan to eliminate all possibilities. If some one doesn't agree to this then please tell me what else has to do with oil pressure dropping under acceleration. I have installed a mechanical gauge like every one said to start with and that did nothing but give me a nice gauge in the car that still drops under acceleration. It does run 12 PSi higher but still drops! What to buy from this point. I'll be home to work on the car in 3 days from vacation!

The way I found out I had a windage issue was by installing a mechanical oil pressure gauge and doing a few quick WOT runs and saw the gauge lose psi very quickly whereas my stock gauge stayed at a constant pressure. I took a quart of oil out and the gauge was steady throughout the entire WOT run.
If you are indeed having windage issues it would be a good idea to at least run a different windage tray.

I too just bought a Canton 242t pan for my 385 stroker build for my Impala SS. So you guys are saying not to run over 5.5 quarts in due cavitation. Why? What in the pan causes the situation?

Not positive, but it's possible it is a windage tray issue. I know of one who had the 242t, had cavitation and switched to (I think) a Milodon windage tray and had no more problems.

If I'm dropping the pan I am going to install the milodon windage tray regardless! I guess I'm going to figure out what pan I want to go with first! Hell who knows maybe my problem is I have been running to much oil the whole time. I start with 5.5 qts regardless because that's what I've ran in it for the laast 10 years I've owned it.

Did this problem start after having machine work by any chance?
