Default HELP! what can cause water to mix with oil

just as the titles states, what are possible causes for this to happen?? i know that these things can cause this: head gaskets or
heads not torqued down right

but what else??

Simple head gasket failure, cracked cylinder head or cracked block...

A real long one, like a few universes off the starboard bow...

Bottom line if you have water in oil the engine will need to have major work!

About the best you can hope for is a blown headgasket then you can pull the head that is leaking surface the head, replace gaskets intake exhaust and assemble.

One in a thousand you could retorque head and have it reseal but it won't last and even if it did you would never trust the car soooo

Sorry if the coolant system won't hold pressure that would be my guess.

Good luck

water can seep around the threads on the head bolts/studs if not sealed right...

its cause i installed an engine that i just rebuilt, this thing doesnt even have a mile on it and probably less than 30 minutes worth of on time.... and water is getting mixed up with the oil, i asked to get ideas from you guys

im really leaning towards the threads of the bolts, or just a head gasket failure

i doubt the block deck is warped, it was milled

the heads were also milled (and the engine hasnt seem temps above 160 degrees so they shouldnt be warped))

when i torqued down the heads (arp head bolts) i went over them in 3 passes 30, 50, and then to 75 ft lbs (i called arp and they told me that should work)

i followed the proper sequence

i used thread sealer on the head bolts http://www.permatex.com/products/Aut...et_Sealant.htm hmmmmm after reading the descrition i think this might be it, but on the can it states thats its excellent for threads...

o and i used these head gaskets http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MRG-5716/
the wierd thimg about these was that they had no marking or anything to indicate which side goes up....

what do you guys think about all this??

Sounds like you got some good info already. I'd start by pulling off the heads and go from there.

your right when you say that i should pull the heads off, i just want to know what i should be looking for or if i did anything wrong based on how i put the motor together

im really really leaniing towards the head bolt threads or the head gaskets

maybe i shouldve used a dedicated thread sealer
or i put the head gaskets on wrong

does anyone have any experience with those gaskets or what i used for thread sealer??

My father 8 years ago was one of those long shots.........

We bought Z28 with known coolant in oil, OK figured replace the gaskets and see what she does, no marks on the head gaskets showing coolant seeps.

Ok replace them and fire it up, sucks coolant down, WE ARE LIKE WTF????

Pull throttle body off and pull the bottom cover where coolant ports are.

F'in orange dextol ate the aluminum away where it runs under throttle bores so DO NOT OVER LOOK THIS. So yes it can happen and we just bypassed TB coolant and epoxied weak casting spot under TB. Installed the new 355 8 years ago and the damn thing still dosnt have 2000miles on it lol, garage queen for sure.

pull the valve covers, look on the low side you can see the water pooling if its the head bolts...mine did this one time...1 or 2 bolts were seeping water even though i used arp thread sealant... i drained the water and resealed, then it was all good

How much water is in the oil? If it is a lot I would doubt it be the head bolts. Anyhow, the sealer you used is for paper gaskets. You want this stuff, http://www.permatex.com/products/Aut..._with_PTFE.htm or ARP thread sealer.

Just do it the right way and take the heads off, chase all the threads, replace the headgaskets with some quality gaskets, and use some ARP thread sealant.

Also make sure the ARP headbolts are reusable.
