![Question](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
hello, i recently bought a 93 transam..s.d. car 700r4 trans ,put llp style lt's on, drilled slotted brakes ,tubular p.h. rod, control arms, relocator brackets, adjustable tube tork arm, strut tower brc...,ect... so i plan on keeping this car around. i got a deal on an Msd coil to replace the stock unit,to complement the msd opti the motor already has.(came with car already installed).... recently i started getting a 2000-3000ish rpm miss and hesitation under a load along with the tach needle dancing when it happens ,i replaced plugs and wires...no change,..so i'm guessing the opti, first i replaced stock o2 sen's,no change, then i replaced coil with stock unit, found some wearing thin grounding out wires in harness..fixed. miss fire is gone!!
,..now i'm thinking i still have time before the dreaded opti fails ,so on to my question...i wana go distributorless.. is there a parts list i need to gather?...i plan on collecting it all over a lil time, is there some instructions out here some where on installation, and re-pinning? what computer will i need?ect....thx for your help

have you checked out efi solutions? they have the lsx conversion that eliminates the opti all together. pretty nice setup. I wish I had gone with it. They also have the DIY wiring kit to adapt the lsx computer and then you can have it tuned with hp tuners. There are more tuners tuning lsx than LT1's anymore.

Head to the junk yard and find a 96 to 97 lt1 harness, aslo find an ls1 pcm, Ls1 coils, and a 96 to 97 LT1 timing cover with the crank possition sensor. Then buy the reluctors and opti plug from EFI and repin the haness you get and run efi 24x and get a tune for it. The options for tuning are now endless as they will be tuning an ls1 pcm.

On another topic...i also have my hands on a set of brakes from a 01 3.8 camero, fronts are double piston like ls1 and rears are bigger and slightly different in design than my 93,Are theythe sought after brakes to convert to? do the bolt right up? the brakes on this camero are positioned at 11o'clock on front and 3o'clock on rears......

so.ok..cool , today i found some vortech 5.3 lsx truck coils on brackets with pigtail of main harness connector.. off a totaled out pickup for $100 bucks...good deal i guess, i then found a 96-97 timing cover on ebay for $120thats about it for this weeks paycheck bonus...cant wait to have a spare opti
guess i need a wiring harness next? why shouldnt i buy a 99+ f-body harness and pcm together? or is there a reason for a Lt1 harness? again my car is a 93 with a 700R4 T/A

97 harness won't be plug and play in a 93 car. You'll need to get a 96+97 body harness as well unless you are really nifty with wiring and you re-do what needs to be done. Personally I say stick with the Opti. There is nothing wrong with it, and will more than likely satisfy all of your performance needs. I have yet to have any issues. Just take some time and figure out what's going on. Have you checked the harness itself for any flaws? Maybe pcm? I have both for sale in case you need them

Well yeah, if you notice, only 93-94 cars have one bulkhead connector on the passenger side strut tower (body harness to engine harness). 95+ cars have two. It's just a lot easier to wire **** up when you have things somewhat matching

he is saying that on our cars (93-94 year model) that not only will you need the 96-97 engine harness, but you will also be needing the 96-97 body harness as well. The 96-97 engine harness will not connect to the 93-94 body harness. Reason for this is due to the fact that we have only a single connector on the passenger side wheel well versus the 96-97 harness having two connectors. Unless you are very capable of re-pinning your harness to work correctly with the new harness, it will not work.
