Default Ss lt1 (super slow)

Hey guys long time stalker first time poster.

I have a 1997 trans am lt1, bone stock ex for k&n cold air.

When i get in the car in the morning (engine cold ) and let it run for a min or 2 and take off the car is a beast, It wont hook in first for crap and just runs good. After a 15-20 min drive the lt1 jumps out and a 2.0L takes its place. It is a huge notice in power loss. It wont even chirp the tires on takeoff and gets a hesitation. If you put the car in P and rev it, it has hesi. everytime you hit it and it doesnt matter where in the rpm band it is.

Also when i got the car (about 2 months ago) it didnt have a MAF
some dumb sh*t pulled it off. But the car ran great with no maf??? It actually felt like it slowed the car down when i put a new one on. I have also put a new TPS and a temp sensor for the puter (fans no work).

Sorry for the long post and the spelling

I don't know what the problem with your car is.....but you shouldn't be taking your car above 3k without it being warmed up.

if it didnt have a maf. the "dumbshit" probably had it speed density tuned. hints why it wasnt there. now if im not mistaken if you put a maf back on a car like yours a 97. and its been speed density tuned it will pick up a reading from the maf but i could be wrong someone correct me here please.

^ that is possible but the previous owner could have definitely abused it. My car didn't even have a thermostat when I bought it

I'm thinking the same thing.

How does the car run when you remove the maf?

It is probably running like crap because of heat soak in the intake warming up your air charge. Your fans not working isn't helping anything either. Like 06blackgto said i doubt any one would be dumb enough to remove the maf unless the car was sd tuned. Order a 160* thermostat and get your fans working. Check your water pump as well, make sure it isn't leaking on your opti or plug wires. If that don't work change your plugs and wires fuel filter (make sure you gap your plugs to .050) it makes a big difference in these motors. . Still no luck? Check your fuel pressure at start up when engine is cold record reading and check it again when car is hot. If it is lower when the car is warm your fuel pump might b on its last legs. Shouldn't take you more than a afternoon to complete everything i said above, and well worth it if u just bought the car. Oh and btw dont be like every f-ing idiot out there revving the **** out of your motor till its warmed up! Or your next post will say "Whats all that tapping and racket coming from my valve covers?"

no fans, still? Or, are you saying you replaced the temp sensor because the fans weren't turning on before? If the fans still are not working, that would be a major possibility as to why your power goes bye-bye once the motor heats up to stupid hot temps.

If they are working now but, weren't before, There may have been some damage done to internal parts from it running super hot in the past?.. PLUS, it sounds like someone had been tinkering and beating on it prior to you so, could be alot of things. Anything leaking? Burning oil at all? Any really bad tapping knocking that you can hear under load?

sounds like a tune problem. open loop vs closed loop. take the maf and and try it. he prolly had it tuned for Speed Density.

The fans do work now. I dont think the car has been SD tuned. Actually there is no that i can tell it isnt but who would sd tune a Bone stock lt1?

Im not beating on the car when it is 30 out side. It has been warm 70-80 and i let it run for a few min and just off idle there is a diff.

The car runs good no smoke 45lbs of oil pressure when warm, but leaks oil pretty good. I bought the car from a good friend but he didnt have it long. I dont know the person before him so......

Also if you spent the time to SD tune it wouldnt you lower the fan temps? They kick on at 225 and off at 190-210ish. Temps stay at 170 going down the road.

Regardless of how warm it is a few minutes is not long enough for your tranny to warm up to optimum running temps.

Its a auto. It looks like its the front of the pan, but there is no oil on the opti.
Is there a way to test the MAP? Could it be bad and not telling 0 vac?
