LT1 Crank hub wierd??
Ok here is the deal i have a 96 formula that i was working on because the engine didnt want to start
I replaced the cap and rotor from the opti, replaced water pump, all plugs with ngk, starter, and some other small stuff
anyways as soon as i replaced all of that i tired to start it and it did but the belt wasnt turning so i was like wtf, i jacked up the car and the belt was coming off the harmonic balancer, so i turn off the car, took off the serpentine belt and look at the harmonic balancer and it was really loose, so loose that it was going to probably fall off but since the crank hub has a bolt on the middle that's what hold it on to the crank snout
anyways i took off the middle bolt of the harmonic balancer and the took out the crank pulley with the hub on it, seperated the pulley from the hub and tried reinstalling the hub but its loose like its not pressed in like it should be?
is there anything i have to do to install the hub in a certain way? how can i know the hub is not bad or if i damaged something else?

yeah i googled how can i tell i messed it up, engine is on the car and car doesnt run but i assume is because i dont have the serpentine belt on and the crank pulley
Also, when i was putting the crank hub, like it slides so easy on the crank snout i dont have to tap it or anything its like loose like i broke a seal or something im not sure what it is im really lost lol

its a pressed fit and will take a little bit of effort to get it in. if its as loose as you describe it should be time to look into a replacement. even if you managed to get the bolt tight enough to prevent it from backing out a hub that loose will likely just freespin.

Also the reluctor is as described above by stevo and you just need to make sure it dosn't have chunks missing out of it lol. You can pull the CPS and look through the CPS hole with a flash light and turn the crank and inspect it. At the same time you can look through the front hub seal and make sure it is seated on the timming gear keyway. If you buy the jegs hub, You will need to buy a crank key for it. It wont come with one.

LOL yea what is done to that engine? That timing set isn't stock. Thats the GMPP hd set. How does the crank snout look? I think you need to mic it and make sure it isn't so worn down that the hub wobbles. Pull that reluctor and see what the size diff is where the reluctor sits.

i bought the car for really cheap cause it had several issues so im not sure if its stock or not but to me its stock i guess, but im not an expert or anything and havent really had it running for long so i cant tell how fast it is vs stock
anyways, do you mean that the timing isnt stock like they upgraded for performance or is there a good reason to upgrade to the GMPP hd setup you mentioned?
Im not too familiar with LT1 so im learning my way as i take this car apart lol, do you guys know why my car is throwing a timing code its something that starts with "p1" but not sure what it is?
can a bad placed crank sensor cause the car not to start? or its just a sensor and the car should start?
