I'll admit. I think most of yall are in denial. When I owned my 97 for 2 years, I thought the LT1 was the strongest... but I knew for fact nothing beat a strong LS1. As much as I told myself an LT1 is king, it just never happened. Come to assurance now and the pain will be less

If I was in your shoes and I was doing it over, I would say pass on it, and get a LSx car. You'll have more options down the road, especially buying used go fast parts. If you can get a clean car that has had work done on it, you should be good too. I think it may be cheaper to get a LTx car into the 120mph traps, and that's all you'll need for 90% of the world out there. Don't forget all the suspension work too you'll need to go fast.

I like this forum as it reminds me of what cz28.com use to be. lot's of good technical discussion and guys doing great stuff with these LT1 motors. It was interesting to see all the back and forth on the potential DART blocks that never came to be too.

i will however always keep this damn LT1 just because the car has been in the family since new and I've done all the work on it and replaced the motor, and cursed and bitched and fought with it every step of the way and still like driving it and it's decently fast . It won't touch my LSx car, but it's still fun to drive and these cars are getting more rare on the road.

I own both LS1 and LT1. Just finishing up a rebuild of my LT1. This engine has its unique quirks, but those "in the know" understand the LT1 is not an engine to underestimate. Do I feel like an outcast? Not a chance. The LT1 is the last version of the 1955 small block Chevy. I like being part of the club that knows how it works, and there is lots of LT1 forums.

We'll see how it goes. I think I should go for the LS1 too.

back in '02 i swapped the cam'd LT1 out of my 93z28 for an LS1. i put a set of ported 5.3's on it along with a 230/236 cam. the car actually ran slower at the track after that. it made a lousy 376rwhp through a 12 bolt mainly due to the lousy heads.
later i swapped to a 233/239 cam and some untouched 243 heads. the car is now making around 410rwhp, and it just barely runs the same mph as that LT1 did. the et is still a little slower.
oh yea, the LT1 i pulled out of the z28 is now in my GTA.

I'm not use to driving such big cars. I also don't like an exhaust that will rattle my brain. I drove the 98 SS and not all its cracked up to be. I value handling. If the 97 SS doesn't rattle my brain when I drive it I'll probbly buy it and start saving up for the vette. lol
I value saftey too may look at a GTO not sure how safe they are.

Is it wrong to want a car that doesn't annoy you while driving it daily?

^^yes.

Just kidding. My brother's Talon is annoying and it's not even built, it just needs a good tune.

Dude, I'm not kidding you here. The only reason I got the lT1 TA is because I couldn't afford an LS Camaro or even better a ws6.

I got the TA because the interior is better than the Camaro.

So, if I were you I'd get an LS1. There are so many parts out there, and come on the torque is still there, it's not like it's a Civic or something.

I still do really love my TA though. I was just commenting to my brother last night, how it is a funny feeling not having the urge to change cars every year or so, like I used to do w/ my Hondas. I finally have this car, and I'm satisfied with it, I just feel like dumping all sorts of parts in it and enjoying it.

Don't get me wrong I still want and ls1 ws6 and a vette, and a cobra, and an EVo, but I'm satisfied. Maybe I'll just have to get them all.

AND Dump an LS3 into my LT1 TA.

Day dreaming is fun.
