Default Knock Count Cycling on Datamaster

When I scan the car with TTS Datamaster the knock count continuously cycles from zero increasing quickly to max and restarting back at zero. Its making me and my car retarded.

I have a 355 LT1 W/ GM 847 with roller rockers. Before anyone says to get a lt4 knock module, my car is a 93 and the module isnt removable.

I got under the car to check the resistance at the connector but couldn't get a good reading. I dont really want to remove the sensor and get a coolant bath. Can I get it tuned out or any other suggestions.

I knew I couldn't be the only one. I've got the exact same issue, you'll probably notice that the counter still goes nuts even it the knock sensor is unplugged. At first, I thought I may have the wrong knock sensor so I went and got a new one specifically for a 93 and it didn't change anything. I have two other buddies with 93s and one of them does it and the other one does not. At one time, someone said it was a datamaster problem but I don't buy it since I've logged a 93 that didn't do it.

Hopefully we can get to the bottom of it this time.

My 93 does it too. A while back a guy in this forum said he used a chip from a tuner without adapting the factory prom which contains the knock circuitry. He claims he was told not to use the factory prom piggy backed to the adapter. I was always told to use the factory prom with the adapter, so I tested this. I took out the factory prom and used just the tuned chip. Started the car and the knock counts went f'n crazy. To me, it just proved that the factory prom must be used. There is a small extra chip (on the side of the chip which is attached to the adapter) on the prom which is for the knock sensor functions. Even with the factory prom piggybacked, I still get knock counts, just not nearly as erratic. I too would like to know the answer as to why this occurs. Also using datamaster.

That pretty much rules out datamaster being the problem if you've seen it with autoxray too. I'll have to try it again but I also seem to remember that the counter just spins with the key on, engine off. I'll confirm that and also put the stock chip back in and see what it does.

yeah it just keeps cycling up. I don't think it's a chip problem.

Are you not piggybacking the factory prom to your new chip and adapter?

I took out the piggyback adapter shock the ECM housing and out popped the stock chip. Plugged it onto the adapter and solved more than one of my problems

Thanks rkinney

Yes, I use the Moates G1 adapter.

I don't quite understand what steve000 said. Is yours fixed? What was it?

Mine is fixed now. My original factory chip fell off the adapter somehow and I put it back onto the adapter. Also if you put the original chip onto the adapter upside down it will cause problems as well.

Thanks, I'll check it when I get home. Hopefully it's that simple of a fix for me.
