I am out of ideas so maybe you all will have some. Car is a 96 Ta. It is very hard to start when you first get in and wont idle very well once it does start. After it warms up it runs smoother and idles pretty good, but when i get it on the road it starts cutting in and out. Has some sort of miss to it i guess you would say. I have changed the plugs wires and opti, which made a big improvement, but its still not right. I have also recently changed the fuel filter. The engine isn't making any bad noises or anything so i don't think its anything internal. Any ideas where to look next ?

Well I am having the same trouble atm I love my damn car but man is that bitch pissing me off. What code did you come out with? I had a p1441 which is egr purge (vacuum leak) I have checked all vacuum leaks and still havent found the issue.
Does your car hesitate from 1k-2k rpm?

ICM? Have you checked fuel pressure and ignition before throwing any more parts at it? shbox.com has some good test procedures you can follow that are already written up well to rule out some of these expensive components so you don't waste anymore time or money.

Well it wont run at all now.. So if by hesitate you mean sit in my driveway and collect leaves and pollen then yes. The code i got was a random misfire, i am not sure the number. You probably have a clogged cat if its throwing that code, and would make it run like *** for sure.

I hear the fuel pump running when i turn the key on so i don't think it is that. And i just changed the Fuel filter a month or two ago. I'll take it off and try to blow through it just for the hell of it. I can smell the unburnt gas in the exhaust when i try to start it so i don't think its a fuel problem. What is the little black module that is attached to the heat sink behind the coil? It has a little crack in it, and looks like it could have gotten overheated. Would that cause it to run like crap, and then eventually not run at all? Thanks for the help everyone!

Okay so i got a icm off a blazer in the junk yard put it on and the car starts now, but runs like crap still. I took a video of it running, but i don't know how to post it.. Basically the car wont idle very good, is slow to rev up, and wont rev past 4,500 rpm in neutral.. I am thinking i may have to just bite the bullet and take it to the dealer. Hate paying out the *** for questionable work.

Is your air intake tube attached correctly to your throttlebody? I noticed (when I bought my firebird) the prev. owner didn't quite attach the air intake (at the TB) properly. The rubber at the bottom of the intake was folded a bit, and air could get in, and screw up the air reading from the MAF. Caused the car to run like crap until I figured it out. May be a long shot, but worth checking...

I would check with an auto part store and see if the part numbers for the blazer and your car are the same before you assume that didn't fix it. I know it looks identical but it's the programming inside that little box that makes it run properly.
