What size injectors for 396cid LT-1 on E-85
I picked up a 1994 Z-28 a little while back and I'm strongly considering running it on E-85. As you can tell by my signature, I'm stepping into the unknown for me.
It's a 12:1 compression 396
ported stock heads and intake
cc306 cam
all the bolt-ons
Makes 409 rwhp and 429 ft/lb of torque through a 6-speed.
The car currently has 36 lb/hr injectors in it now with a 255lph pump. Otherwise the fuel system is stock.
What size injectors do you think I would need to fuel this motor using E-85? Think I could get away with 42's or would I need 60's? Do you think stock lines, etc will be sufficient?
I'm toying with the idea hitting it with a 150hp wet shot, so those fuel needs would have to be accounted for as well when talking about the fuel pump and lines.

Idk if this will help you or not since you are wanting to run E-85 but it might.

I run a walbro 255 and 42lb injectors on my 383 putting down numbers close to yours as an automatic. E85 isnt needed with a setup like ours. I run almost 12.5:1 static compression. I did see a healthy gain in my power, more then my tuner thought I should've.
walbro pumps do not support E85. I dont know how long mine will last but I made sure I flushed the tank very well due to the contamination and deposits E85 would break loose and run through the pump eventually shortening its life even more.
On my conversion I have 2 computers, One with a pump gas tune set on the safe side (11.8:1) and the other for E85 (that would equal around 12.8:1) I dont switch back and forth a lot, actually I havent switched back to regular from E85 because it did away with the rotten smell of regular. But be prepared, Running E85 has been more expensive then running regular due to the ammount it has to burn.

Your correct, the wideband readout will not read that, but to put it in a language that most would understand, that is what it equals out around, a 12.8:1 would be EXTREMELY lean and burn something up ona wideband on E85. Im not an e85 genious, I did what my tuner had asked. I can not remember the exact numbers but I believe they were 8-9:1

I was looking to go with E85 because it's cheaper than race gas, even if you do have to use more of it. I currently have to run a 50/50 mix of pump and race gas(110). E85 also has a cooling effect which is an added bonus and will let me get a little more timing in the motor.
On 93 octane I get audible spark knock even with as little as 22* of total timing. I know lots of people say that you can run that compression on pump gas, but this has just not been the case for me. Grated I bought this car already modded, so I didn't build the motor. So who knows really what the compression is.....I can only go off what I was told.

Did you do what we talked about to determine if you have false knock?
Never mind I read the above post. You need the car tuned, for what it would cost to convert to e 85, Geoff Skinner in Baton Rouge can tune the car for 93.
Also you need an LT4 knock module.
If that block was zero decked, its 13 to 1....gonna be tough but a good tuner can get it to work.

I got the LT4 module ordered.
I have no clue if the block was zero decked or not. One of the downsides of buying it already modded.
Wade at Southern Speed tuned the car, but it was a tuned for the pump/race gas mix. I may call Geoff and see about him tuning it, as he has a little more experience with this application. Is what who tunes your ride?
