Default takout catalytic converter on lt1

I haev a 1996 Firebird Formula with an m6 and slp loudmouth 1 cat back. What would be the benefits and negatives to taking the catalytic converter out of my car? some people tell me ill lose power, some say my power range will change and ill get more horsepower but a little less torque. know i wont pass inspection, but how will it sound and perform compared to now?

You will lose power unless you have it tuned.

I have a lm1 without a cat and my suggestion would be to leave the cat on.

Just leave it on. You are giving up a negligable amount of power by running a cat. If you want more power for not a lot of money do the free mods, an airfoil and a CAI. That's 10-20 alone

Remove it if you can get past emissions. Get a tune if you want but any power "lost" wont outweigh the weight loss especially if you have 2 cats.

Power loss is minimal I forget it but its either +/- 1-2 rwhp or +/1-2 rwtq a combo of one of those loss and gain.

Just wait until you get long tube headers to take out your cats.

If its cheap and easy take it out....however im not sure it will sound good with your exhaust setup. I would more take it out for the postive exhuast sound it would make on a normal style catback.

It will NOT sound like *** with stock exhaust. In fact, IMO it sound pretty good. I'd do it again. The car didn't get much louder, but the tone definitely changed for the better!

I know that on average you won't gain much on a still restrictive exhaust..

Now, I got Long tubes and an ORY on now.. and it sounds 10x better then it did with my last combo..

and of course you run the chance of failing inspection.. unless you buy a decal

I thought an airfoil gained you like 1 or 2 horsepower at most, haha.

With the LM resonator I would suggest leaving it on. I have a LM2 with a hollow cat and it does pop quite a bit...

^^yeah if your going to remove it remove it, don't gut it. if you need to pass visual get one of these> http://www.frozenboost.com/index.php...180c9f2fad063c
a gutted cat disrupts the airflow and prolly makes you loose a couple hp and def won't help w/ the LT1 poppin

Or you could have that exact same thing made for probably cheaper than is being offered there.

$40 is pretty cheap. personally I'd rather have it shipped to my door ready to install then spend time getting one made just to save a couple of bucks.
