Electric Water pump and wiring Q & A What are some suggestions on how to wire it in to come on with the key so no switches or wires run to interior ...in detail..... Also how do i wire in/ create a fault light/led in-case the pump fails?

hey thanks for the help....only i'm illiterate to wiring scem's...so i'm having a hard time understanding what to do here....i have deleted my smog pump and removed the relay...easy enough to put back in the relay but i dont understand the circut.........are you saying to cut and rebuild the smog circut at the fuse block under the hood to match this diagram or are you saying just where to splice the pump and led's into the existing circut...and that i have to by these diodes and resistors ? I'm pretty sure i can ground it more than good enough to have a ground fault led...so I'm going with just a pump fail led......

Use a good relay(ABS relays are cheap and well built) to route the power to your water pump, you also want a fuse on the lead coming off the battery. These are two things you must do everything else you have multiple options for.

You can keep it simple and do this (if you aren't diagram-literate). This is the bare minimum requirement to run a water pump. This is how I have mine wired.
Run a wire from the small positive terminal on the passenger side fender to terminal 87 of the relay.
Run a wire from the ignition fuse in the underhood fuse box to terminal 86 of the relay. You can tap into the wire below the fuse box.
Run a wire from terminal 85 of the relay to a good solid ground.
Run a wire from terminal 30 on the relay through a 1-amp inline fuse holder, then to the blue wire of the water pump.
Run the black wire off the water pump to another good solid ground.
Done.

thanks for the help so far guys! the pump will be here wed. Hey JOE? What wire under the fuse box from the ignition are you tapping? i assume setting up this way alows coolant to circulate even when MOKO? that would help cool between laps down the track rite? still curious what to do about a sudden pump motor death light and if i should cut into/use smog relay circut.....~Michael~

sorry default. Im not sure but somehow i missed over looking at this thread again. I no longer have the abs or smog in my car. So I removed the fuse block from its original location and flipped it over. I decided to go with the smog pump relay and fuse location. I snipped the wires that were originally attached to the underside of the relay and fuse. I ran two new wires (same gauge as the EWP wires) through the factory wiring loom that runs on the front side of the core support. These were attached to the main ground post and the main power block on the factory side. I ran my main power (new wire ran from the main power block) and soldered it to the factory wire (snipped from the under side of fuse block) on the location where the 87 terminal plugs in. Next I ran the factory wiring from the underside of the fuse block; from where terminal 30 plugs in, over to one side of a fuse in the top right corner of the fuse block. I had to unpin a connection from another unused fuse. From there I ran the other side of the fuse to the blue wire of the pump.Next I soldered both the wiring coming from terminal 85 (underside of fuse block where terminal 85 plugs in) as well as the black wire coming from the EWP to the new wire ran from the main ground stud. And lastly Soldered a wire from the ignition hot on the underside of the fuse block (IIRC it it the orange wire opposite of the cluster of wires coming in to the block. If should have one or two connections open on the spade to solder this wire to) to the connection on the underside of the block where terminal 86 plugs in.

Ok. Not sure what time I will get off but it shouldnt be to late. It's about 1p.m. here so. My advice would be to read over that schematic a few times and get a good understanding of the working to be done. This way when it come time to wire it up it will be much easier. If you have any questions be sure to ask. The last thing you want is for your water pump to stop working.
