Installing headers
I'm installing long tube headers on my 94 firebird. I have had beat and bend the tubes with a hammer to make the clear the frame and such. Has anyone had to do this or did I just get screwed as I bought the headers off of e-bay?

Most headers have clearance issues of some sort. I just installed LPPs recently and had to dent in the side of the frame rail to clear #8 primary and grind on the k-member a little on the passenger side. Do you have new motor mounts? That tends to help as the stock rubber ones start to sag over the years

My LPPs went in with almost ZERO fitment issues. (first gen too!)
All I had to do was shorten the steering knuckle bolt.
Ebay headers are cheap for a reason. Probably pay off in the end, but you'll pay for them upfront either way.

Those are the same ones i bought for my car. They went on without having to dent or bend anything. I had put new Prothane mounts on right before hand so that helped a lot. The one problem i did have was with the passenger side collector. It was turned in so it was not pointing to the rear of the car. It was a little bit cocked and made it a royal bitch to get the y pipe on. It rattles and sounds like ****, so i got to take it off and cut and weld some stuff to make it right. Just to fed up with it at the moment to mess around with it.

Thanks for the reply guys. JCL not sure if there is a difference between my firebird and your TA. It seems the header is real close to the oil filter, is yours the same way? These are not fitting at all, I got the drivers side in today and hope to get the passenger tomorrow. fingers crossed

yeah good luck with the o2 bungs. Your gonna have to have new ones put in and the originals welded or capped. Where there located now will not work. you wont be able to screw in the o2 sensors
one side looks like its facing up and the other side is facing down. wtf!?

^ Kooks, LPPs and a few others, use this method, with no issues at all it saves from having to have 2 O2 sensors extensions, this way you only need 1 12" one.

Yah the o2 bungs are just fine where they are. As for the oil filter it should clear UNLESS you have a OIL COOLER, you will probably have to ditch that to make them work. Passenger side is easy, except for that damn dipstick tube. I yanked off the alternator to make some more room, and pulled out all the spark plugs witch kept getting in the way as well. You will have to cut about 3/4 of a inch off of a spark plug socket to get one of the plugs back in. I had to tighten it in with a wrench on the spark plug socket. Hope this was helpful.

I will not let a piece of steel beat me. Hammers and torches were invented for a reason. I put a lift on a rusted out jeep that took me and my buddy 12 hours to do, should of taken 3. I will win!!!

FYI for those that don't know. SLP sells a modified spark plug socket that is much shorter and has a bigger hole for the spark plug to fit through. $20.00 back when I bought one. Works great.

Just make sure you can either get your hand up there to tighten it properly or do it before you bolt it up or you're left with a loose 02!
