Default Patriot gold extreme install in car?

Anybody done this? I don't see how it's possible to do with the heads on the car. The spring compressor won't hold the dual spring and the spring lever bar has no clearance.

Has anybody done this?

I'd rather not pull heads cause that's an extra $150 or so for gaskets and resurfacing.

I can't find where to buy tim's tool. All links I've seen are 5 years old.

Has anybody modified one of these to replicate the tims tool? All you have to do is cut off the handle portion.

My only issue with doing this is that the spring retainer has beveled edges and likes to slip/slide sideways and partially come out of the stupid tool. I may have to weld some stoppers on the side or use a washer on the underside to make it work...

This is a $10 replacement for a ?$40? tim's "tool."

I have a tool very similar to that. It doesn't grip the inner dual spring. I don't want to buy ANOTHER tool to find out it doesn't grip too. Shoebox says that it doesn't work on a lot of them, so I'm not going to bother with it. I guess I'll try rigging my own..... damn it. Stupid cars. My next one is definitely a turbo V6 firebird.

Done it many times. Its as easy as any single spring swap assuming you have the right tools.

Not really. Those screw type compressors work well for single coils but not dual coils. The jaws cant grip that inner spring well enough to compress.

Get the Tims tool or the old Crane dual spring compressor.

I had no problem using the KD Tool's OHVSC on my Crane 99893s (dual springs).

The crane compressor is well worth the $$$, especially considering that valvespring swaps are part of normal maintenance on cammed engines... even though most people neglect them.

Agreed. I own one of these tools, I swear it's worth its weight in gold. Especialy considering Crane is out of business and not making them anymore.

I bought this tool while I was doing my first patriot extreme install on a friends car. At the beginning of that install, all that I owned was the KD tool mentioned above, and I had the same prob with it not grabbing the inner spring on the patriots. It had worked fine on beehives in the past though. Anyways, got my hands on the Crane tool and it made the install a breeze. I've installed a total of three sets of patriot extremes on local LT1s since then using the Crane tool. Also, now that my combo is solid-roller, I'm sure it'll prove even more invaluable.

Crane is back in business. Not sure I would trust their spinning times though.

Call Crane directly. We just ordered one last Wednesday, they were just finishing packaging up a batch. Same price as Jegs or Summit.

But that tool dont work if you have 7/16" bolt holes for screw in studs. SO you will have to either drill out that new tool to 7/16 or just use a overhead valve spring compressor like this..

It only takes a couple minutes to drill out 2 holes. I don't see what the big deal is.
