Default Would carb be better?

just wondering if i changed to a carb and a rear mount distributer would be better (just performance wise) not a dd. just looking to make the most power n/a as possible. with what i have got. not looking to get bigger heads yet. Im tired of messing with the computer.

You will see that this topic WILL BE hotly debated. IMO, a properly setup fuel injection setup is the way to go. Most guys who switch to a carb are in your boat - they lack the diagnostic ability to setup, maintain, and diagnose FI setups.

i know you have the bennefit of getting diagnostics from the pcm, but what would really be the pros and cons to the carb. besides computer tuning and fuel miliage. remember im just looking for performance. I just like the thought of no pcm and stupid knock module.

It's not that simple unfortunately. The term "more air" doesn't always translate to "more power." Read this article and draw your own conclusions:

The price of an aftermarket efi setup is enough to consider a carb but I dont see it being an option unless your ride is an 8000 rpm drag car.

Have it properly dyno tuned.

I would not swap to a carb, if I switched from the opti, I would do the ls1 coil and pcm conversion. It is a little pricey, but imo the best alternative to the opti.

If you're starting from scratch, it will cost well in excess of $2000, plus tuning.

You would try and say that is worth the money for the power and reliability you gain??

I have no problems with a good tuner and a working Delco opti. The ONLY time I would consider doing the conversion is if my motor exceeded the 7100rpm limit of the factory PCM.

oh no. i dont spin over 6500, and I usualy shift at 6100. Ok then lets venture a little off topic. What would be another good upgrade to build more power?

Well, what are you looking for, dyno numbers or track times?
Who ported your heads?
Is it dyno-tuned? And what did it put down?
Budget?

I think you are leaving alot of power on the table with your heads/cam. www.advancedinduction.com is doing wonders with CNC ported stock castings and custom grinds (see signature). Some of the fastest LT1s in the country are using their stuff. The XFI grinds aren't bad by any means, but for someone looking for every ounce out of their combo, a custom grind is definitely the way to go.
