well you'll need a ram air hood to use anything other than a cai. Ram Air hood + ls1 ws6 lid setup or a lt1 ram air intake is by far the best. I picked up 2 10ths, and 3 mph in the quarter with my ls1 ws6 lid set up over my moroso cai.

Good luck finding a '98-'02 WS6 raised lower lid base (if you do, it won't be less than $250). Those are rare.
I'm sorry, was it stated anywhere that the car was a ram air car? (stock air box?)

last year when I found mine I got it, the stock lid, k&n filter, and full ls1 front brake setup for 250 shipped, got lucky on ebay, but anyways, ones in good shape were going for about 125 for the lower box only. I believe it was about a year and a half ago that gm discontinued the 98-02 ws6 raised base, but still should be a LOT easier to find than the lt1 ram air set-ups. Was never said what hood is on the op's car.

To: LT4/TA - you have a '94 Formula, right? That means you are regular, NON ram air hod (correct?). So that means you have the typical 90 degree rubber intake elbow that exits the TB and curves toward the driver's side, which then connects to a plastic box containing the air filter (CORRECT us if this is wrong).
Your Q was which is better: k&n cai vs slp air box? The "LT1" ('93-'97) K&N CAI (much like the Moroso CAI and others) has better potential than the factory intake. As for the "SLP air box" - if you are referring to the LT1 specific '93-'97 RAM AIR intakes offered as SLP as part of the RAM AIR cars (WS6 TA's and Firehawks), the air boxes that sit directly on top of the radiator support, those intake will NOT work on your car. You need a functional ram air hood.
If you are asking about the LS1 based ('98-'02) "LIDS", then that IS an option you can use and arguably a better one that any of the above mentioned intakes. Do a search for LT1 Lid conversions to find out. ***However, in your case you will NOT need a LS1(or WS6) lower lid base & radiator support like bowtie4life got because you do not (as far as we know) have a functional ram air hood. The popular LS1/LT1 lid conversions use the factory LT1 rad support with modification.
