If it is indeed only the oil pump shaft I would get a new one, put new oil in it and start it up. If it doesn't make any excessive noise then run it until it dies.
As far as rebuild kits go, let a machine shop use what they recommend. Reason being is if you use something the shop doesn't like or endorse and there is a failure they can always blame it on your parts and you are SOL for any sort of warranty work.

As far as rebuilds goes, and it does sound like you're going to need one, what are you looking to do? stock rebuild? 355, 383? what kind of power do you want to push? budget? We're going to need this information to give you advise on kits and parts.
