Don't think this should be happening
At the gas pump the other day I put 16.8 gallons in my car.
Looked up that these cars only have a lil over a 15 gallon tank. and when I put the almost 17 gallons in there was still gas in the tank.........WTF?!
Anyone know if there was an upgraded option for a bigger tank and such??

That what i always got. I normally only had to put in around 10-10.5 gallons in at a time.i onlt drove highway miles though. The only thing that was done to the car was a factory set of 3.42s were installed by the previous owner and a k&n filter in the factory box. So on average i used to get 24-26 miles per gallon. Oh and i had my trans rebuilt at around 180xxx miles. So it was still doing pretty good being that old.

So when I go to the pump and put in 14.5 gallons, I only have 1/2 a gallon left in the tank?
I'm pretty sure I've put over 16 gallons in my tank before. One of the first times I filled up, before I realized how the guage worked.
I go about 210-220 miles before I fill up which equates to about 15 mpg.

I do know when but sometime around 97-98 they increased the fuel capacity to 16.8 gallons so that may be why you where able to get in 17...

It's not the tank design it's the poor float design for the fuel level sender. This is a very common problem in fbodies as they get older and you will notice that your tank will stay full (guage reading) until the last 50 miles and then you can pratically watch the needle go to the E.
