Default Lt5

only a some of the zr1's came with an lt5, you can tell by looking at their front winshield because they have a purple hue to them. The Grand Sport did not come with and LT5 but rather an LT4. The chances of spotting an actual LT5 car is vary rare considering most are parked in the garages of rich *** collectors!!

The special ZR1 corvettes with the LT5 (which is a totally different, hand built DOHC engine bearing no relation to any SBC, LT1 or 4, or LS1 or 6) were built from 90-95. They started at 385hp and got bumped to 405hp in (Ithink) 93. They also had special wide rear body work to handle the larger tires of the package. The package added something like 30K to the price of a vette. There were approx. 7000 made over the six years. For more info: http://corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/zr1/index.html

The ZR1 Corvette's got the LT5. That's it. ALL ZR1's got the LT5. Production years were 90-96. Based off of a marine motor if I remember right.

Yes...lotus and GM made the motor for the zr1...there were none in 96. Thats why GM came out w/ the LT4...so vette owners could have something special before the C5 came out. Grand sport and CE vettes were only available in 96 and most had the LT4...but not all. I had a 96 CE LT4 M6 and it was bad ***....untill it caught on fire!

The zr1/lt5 engine was designed by lotus when GM owned them. You can see the gen 2 in the current Esprit. They were all built in oklahoma by Mercury marine. You can tell the zri from 91-92 because it has the round rear , is 4" wider to fit the 315's, has the "power key" in the center console ,and has the third brake light on the decklid. From 93-95 all the vettes went to the round rear, but the zr1 retained the third brake light on the decklid and the regular vette had it between the tail lights. The zr1 rear facia also was 4" wider even when the regular vette went with the rounded rear.

Mercury Marine. I knew it was something like that, just couldn't remember.

thanks.

i read a comment made by John lingenfelter and he spoke about the lt-5 and the Lotus esprit's TT v8 being based off each other.

the esprit's v8 is 3.5 however, it made 350hp.

Corvette Grand Sports came with LT4's. From the outside, they can look almost exactly the same as the cars that came with the LT5. LT5's can be identified by the "ZR1" stickers on the side of the fender. I think I've seen a grand total of two of these cars in my entire life. A guy near me owned one for a while, and with only headers / exhaust he was pushing 400rwhp. Those 4-valve heads have to have some awesome potential. Sorta off subject, but I read somewhere that LT5 crate engines go for around $20K. Any truth in that rumor?

Yep......17~20k. And lets just say you didnt need a new block, but instead you wanted some LPE camshafts....they will only set you back 2,895.00. And when you want to get better injectors...there are 16 of the damn things. The zr1 even has a special windshield that will set you back something around 1500 bucks(and thats a good deal). I would love to have one but to make it faster it costs mega bucks....and who wants a stock car?
