Default Cam question...

Sorry about all these questions but alas I have another question.

My neighbor who used to have an LT1 trans am was listening to my car not to long ago and told me that he thinks my car MIGHT have a cam. He says he is not sure but it doesn't sound like its stock to him. I'm no expert on how a stock LT1 should sound compared to a cammed one but is there any way to tell based on the sound of the car?

I bet it isn't.

Check google for stock idle vids or sound clips and compare.

Alright I doubt it is also. But I thought I might as well ask.

I would pull a valvecover and get a rough measure of lift.

That wont tell him crap. The only way to know is measure. People say that about stock LTs all the time though

run it, if you run a 14, its stock, 13.5-stock, 13.0 then you should start measuring, it's the quickest and easiest way to know. all that true if your car is running properly.

Years ago I met a local with a geared and cammed z28. It was no faster than my car at the time and that was before I did much. Thing was a mid 14 second car till I began helping him sort it out.

People modify cars so terribly badly I would not trust the track to say if it was stock or modded.

There is a guy who comes around here with a stroker Impala that runs cam only times.

Yup there was a solid roller stroker on here that was running with the slow cam only cars for a long time, almost normal bolt on territory!
