If I decide to do long tubes... What do I need to do to keep the headers/Y from smacking the floor?
So far both sets I have installed slammed the floor...on a 95z and 02 formula. It has driven me to the point I am considering MAC mids instead.

Theres that weird looking bracket, not sure who makes it again, but its supposed to keep your y-pipe from sagging

the pacesettery-pipe i had was too close to the floor for comfort, so with a 2x4 and BFH i flattened the y-pipe where i thought it need more clearance and never had an issue with it.
i have had zero issues with my current stainless ebay headers between the floor and the ground. band clamps FTMFW

The condition of your engine and trans mounts can make a difference as well. If the engine is allowed to move around much it can allow the exhaust to hit the body when most long tube headers are a tight fit anyway.
FWIW my jet hot long tubes/ORY do not hit the body anywhere.

My pacesetter y pipe is doing the same thing and making it impossible to tune the car with all the false knock. Now the pipe wont come back off so I can make more room.

On my Formula I had heater hose on the y pipe and it helped, but every so often it would move and start banging again. Right now I am on the fence about long tubes or MACs. The ground clearance looks amazing with the MACs also.

Make sure your mounts are good and have a y-pipe made by a reputable exhaust shop. I never had y-pipe on my car, but with Jet Hots and true duals I never had an issue with them hitting the floor board.
My Y pipe used to bang around when first installed on my 99 Firehawk (bought my car in NC, the previous SC owner put on a ORY and longtubes...the dealership had to pay an exhaust shop to custom make me a catted Y pipe to legally sell me the car in NC) that damn pipe would bang on the underside of my car every time I got on it.... couple weeks later and a few nasty speed-bumps my Y pipe was dented enough for no issues going forward

I ran a pacesetter Y on the LT1 and the TSP Y on the LS1 both hit the frame in the same place. IDK I have a few months to decide, but I told myself I want to lower this car and get mids...so maybe I will do that.
I had the same problem. While trying to figure out what to do I cut up an old tire and wedged a piece of it between the ypipe and floorboard. . . didnt work. After a few days it just melted off.
But, I replaced my motor mounts and it all went away. You might want to look into that

I'm worried about vibrations through my shifter if I run poly mounts. I stuck a poly mount in my car when I changed the clutch and I thought something was about to break it vibrated so bad. My shifter would make all kinds of insane noise until I swapped the mount.
Would motor mounts do that?

I just installed Poly motor mounts, before my engine would shake and my Y-pipe would bang the floor when I made fast turns or did any spirited driving. Now my engine is calm and no more Y-pipe banging.
It was a bitch getting the mounts to line up, but worth it.

If you installed LTs you would be quite happy in the longrun due to potential cam head upgrades. I feel thats the point where mids begin to be maximized.......
If you have emissions issues and your cats have to be in the stock location shorties(96/97) or mids(93-95)are your best bet......
I had the slp shorties but I swapped to Pacesetter LTs and have not looked back!

That's what I did. Easy and no issues at all now. And that y-pipe bracket with my Pacesetters was SOOOOO far off from lining up with anything that it isn't used.Also, I HIGHLY REGRET not buying stainless steel headers, and so does everyone else I have ever talked to. If you plan on keeping your car for more than 5 years, invest in stainless steel so they will last.
