Default Catback Vs Straight Pipes?

So any of you that were following my thread about my broke *** car know that my cat clogged and I gutted it. Well I love my car being loud and all, but with a gutted cat and no muffler, it has no tone. Just deafening. I want it to stay loud, but I want some refinement. I'm thinking maybe a bullet muffler where my cat is? Or maybe a catback? Idk. I just don't want to lose any power that having such a free flowing exhaust may give me. Would a catback take any power away? I know the piping is larger, but there is that whole restrictive muffler thing. Haha. What about just getting a bullet muffler put in my stock piping? Which option would gain/lose more gains for me?

I wouldn't consider the slp. I will probably do the dynomax. I've heard of a lot of people happy with them. My buddy has a slp loudmouth and I just don't like the tone that much.

i wouldnt take the cheap route on something like this. if you can get headers (best mod i have done) do it, the HP gains and sound cant be beat. if not i would look for a good sounding catback, magnaflow has a couple good ones, SLP, exc.

my setup is headers into ORY into flowmaster catback. no cats. no smog pump... just exhaust

check out sweet thunder exhaust...you can get a pair of 18' bullet style mufflers for around $100 and they are great quality made in usa. they have scoops on the inside that makes a wicked deep sound. check them out.

If you want sound follow this guys set-up. for what your car is a cat-back will not hinder you. For the first time in a long time I heard this guys set up^ today on a 96lt1. I forgot how badass flowmaster american thunder cat backs sounded. Everybody is always pushing the same mufflers, magnaflow, hooker, gmmg or bullets.

Ive got a flowtech afterburner which sounds a lot like a flowmaster but doesnt drone NEAR as bad. Its supposed to flow better to and sounds more aggresive at WOT.

I am getting headers soon. I had pacesetter LTs on my Formula. I actually prefer the sound of manifolds to LTs but power is the goal, so I will be getting myself some LTs. I think I am going for a Bassani bullet for now. Then I will get the LTs, ory, 3 inch all the way back through a bassani bullet. I love the way bassani sounds.

Hooker ftw, I always get complimented on the sound of my car, and below 2000ish rpms its quite docile, after that though its pretty loud

I went with a Magnaflow because it was the closest design to my old SLP TOTL muffler. Hopefully it'll sound just as great but it'll probably be louder now that I have headers and no cats:

ya mine sounds good strictly because of no cats. Flowmaster American thunder has a 70 series muffler but it screams

I have the SLP Loudmouth, and with the cats still on it my car is loud and has tone, I like it.

Another popular setup is to get the SLP Loudmouth and a borla muffler. They call it, the Borla Mouth. Still loud, but an even better tone. I'd like to go that way.

If you plan on getting headers stay away from the SLP loudmouth. You lose all tone, and it's just deafening after that.
