Default Stock Heads Larger Valves

I believe the stock valves are 1.800" intake and 1.500" exhaust. I need to do a valve job on my heads and don't have the money to do what I want with the head work so I was going to slap new valves in, 1.6 rockers, new push rods, and lifters.

My question is, I think I read you can run 2.000" intake and 1.600" exhaust valves without doing valve seat work. Is this true?

The Stock LT1 valves are 1.94 intake/1.50 exhaust, If you go bigger valves the valve will not set in the seat as deep as stock. A problem with larger valves in a stock chamber is valve shrouding is increased, if you unshroud the valves then mill back to stock chamber size you will gain a small amount.

You can do 2.00 1.56 and be fine, new springs, step up to 7/16 studs and of course some Lloyd Elliot or AI in your life and make those heads shine!!!!!

Larger valves on stock heads at your power level aren't worth a thing. Stick to stock for the time being until you decide to do ported heads, then let the head porter decide what size to put in. Keep in mind there are cars making big numbers on stock-sized valves.

I have Manley 2.0 and 1.6's in mine. Big mistake, the seats are too small for the valves. It was like that when I bought it. My engine builder had a hell of a time getting them to seal.

I plan on sending my heads out to AI to do the 200cc job on them. I saw the Manley valves that's why I asked. Yes I was gonna put in 7/16 ARP studs. Now the question is, what's the difference between self align rockers and non, besides the obvious. Like what does the whole align thing mean?

Self-aligning rockers have guides at the tip that will keep the roller centered on the valve tip. They don't use guideplates since they hold themselves on the tip.

NSA's have just the roller on the tip and will use guideplates bolted to the rocker studs which hold the pushrods in the rocker.

NSA's cost less but will require hardened pushrods and and the correct guideplates for proper alignment. SA's will bolt on and center themselves but can become unstable at higher rpm's. AI can help you with what rocker will best suite your needs.

Putting in 2.0 and 1.55 valves fit in the stock seat but they still need to be machined. They are the largest to fit without replacing the seats.

My best advise is to ask AI since they're doin your heads. They will be able to tell you based off your cam specs and rpm range which is best for you. NSA's and guideplates I'd say will be just fine especially since your already replacing the pushrods. AI can probably get what ever rocker you want with any needed accessories for the same $ or less than mail order parts houses. Plus they can ship them with your heads so your not paying separate shipping from two places.

I don't have the money to do the heads. I have a burnt valve so that's where all this comes in. I already have an invoice from AI for everything but it's to much. So I was gonna do this then when I get the money sell the stuff.

I've look at Elliot before. The reason why AI is to much is because I would do a whole head and valve train which is about 5000. I can do and upgraded valve train and cam for like 1200 plus gaskets and do my heads later.

If you do all 16 valves youre looking at close to 250 for the valves, close to 200 to have the guides done, and another 200 for the valvejob, add hot tanking for 20$ 60$ for studs, and 250$ for springs retainers and guideplated and your buying a set of LE or AI heads with a few hundred $s more.

Would a few used stock valves help you?

I am sure a handful of us have some laying around for nothing more than shipping.

LE heads do not include lifters or guide plates or push rods, only springs and head work. No rockers.
