Default craigslist lt1? good deal? any thoughts?

alright guys got 200k miles on this engine time for a new one. heres what im thinkin..

"This engine is a STEAL, it has a 300 dollar camshaft comp cam .510 lift, has been bored .30 over with flat top pistons, Just needs bearings and gasket set and its ready to go!! has alot of the stuff with it such as aluminum heads and intake throttle body, distributor, water pump! all kinds of goodies, pre dissambled to examine every part of it! got to the middle of rebuilding it and just bought a new trans am already built, text or cal"

i think with my engine as a donor i could get this engine running, but im not sure if i should try it. gimme your thoughts.

Thumbs down

No way! At best you're getting good block and head cores.

you don't think that that cam would be worth anything? or the flat tops? this is what i was thinking. feel free to shoot me down though!

Engine* 350
Bearings 60
Gaskets 60
Roller rockers 150
CAI 200
TB 130
Tune 200
Push rods 50
Valve springs 68
Head work 500
Total 1768
*includes cam flat top pistons and most other things

of course i would have my engine as a donor so i should have everything i need. throw me you ideas!

If the pistons aren't forged, then they're not worth anything. the cam is useless unless it actually fits your specific setup... BTW what is the asking price???

If it "just needs bearings" then chances are that its had metal particles run throughout the entire engine. So anything that relies on oil for lubrication could have been compromised. Basically it needs to be gone through completely and checked over so your what your really buying is just a core for a rebuild. What is wrong with your current engine exactly?

well i guess i should have been a little more specific. he had the engine in a camaro and pulled it to rebuild it (just for the miles on it). he disassembled it, bought a cam, flat top pistons, and bored the block .30 over when he found a trans am that he wanted and decided to go with it instead. so the way i see it is, with 200k miles this would be a good engine to get to go ahead and be putting back together what it didnt come with i could get from my engine. if for nothing else wouldnt it save me money when i did get ready to rebuild my engine? cam, machine work and pistons have to be worth more than 350, right? when all it needs is main bearings and head gaskets... maybe im wrong you guys tell me!

IMO I would go buy a used running lt1 for about 100 bucks, that's what they go for out here atleast. Then Strip it and build it yourself. Personally I would never buy a motor from a stranger that stopped in the middle of the build. Just asking for problems down the road I think.

I would just because you can't be positive on the quality of what has been done to the block and such. If you get a good running engine it will most likely have less than 200k and then you can build to your quality, goals, ect.

95 Muscle, where are you located? I am going to be selling an excellent running low mileage LT1 in the next month (doing and LS swap in my camaro).
