If you buy the o-reilies puller (the 20$ one) make sure you get a bolt or rod that will go into the snout for the puller to push against, not threaded in the snout, but just goes in and bottoms out, you don't want to ruin the threads in the snout crank.

If you're going to remove the timing cover you have to lower the front of the oil pan to keep from ripping the oil pan gasket. The timing cover has a lip that is behind the front of the oil pan rail. FYI all the timing cover seals can be replaced with it still installed on the engine.

Seriously? Can you post details on how to change the timing cover seal around the crank without taking off the cover? Mine leaks like a ****

Also as a tip to make pulling it easier. Back the bolt out some and leave the socket on for the puller to push against. You don't damage your bolt and it comes out easier.

Here you go:

http://www.camaroz28.com/forums/lt1-...ll-hub-526266/

Note in the above link that the GM crank seal has a rubber coated O.D. and has notches around its outside so it can be pried out with a screw driver used around it's O.D. The GM crank seal will also be easier to install than a metal bodied seal without the rubber coating (like felpro or the noted chicago rawhide seals). The only drawback to the GM seal is it is expensive, about $20 vs $10 for the whole timing cover gasket kit from felpro.
