Thumbs down Rod knock, really?

So I finally get my POS running right, and we have spring/summer like temps finally and I've got a horrible knock that wasnt there before.

It's loudest from under the car, and I'm not ready to spend money on this stuff. Where do I need to be shopping for stuff at? I'm looking at something that costs almost 2500$... not excited at all. (Of course it'd be an upgrade tho)

No, refuse to sell. I will prolly end up taking the cheap 500$ish route instead and quickly have something that runs again. I had planned to build a motor on the side, but I thought this one was going to last me longer.... just pisses me off that I have to pull it already.

$2500 wont go very far if looking to "upgrade" the bottomend, it wont build a good 383 shortblock.

How sure are you of a rod knock, sometimes guys get lucky and find clutch troubles like broken springs or the like causing a "knock".

I would put a junkyard engine in it before a cheap shortblock.

I'm not sure of anything yet since I havent done anything besides listen to it and cry. I'm scared to drain the oil and drop the pan because of what I might find. It sounds like something banging around in the oil pan.

I've been fixing vacuum leaks, and broken wires and random little things.

Weekend before last I did plugs and wires and one plug was nearly closed. After that car ran great, no more missing and just really smooth.

It made a few short trips, like less than 10 miles each, and I started hearing a ticking from inside the car that sounded like it was in the dash. I thought something was loose from me removing the alarm system or the gauge overlay. But with the window down I heard a tick echo'ing off of other cars and walls. I parked it and opened the hood and the sound wasnt any louder on either side on top. But when you'd put your head underneath on driverside it sounds like something banging around in the oil pan. Banging around is not a tick, but from other angles/places it sounds like a tick. It follows the RPMs also.

The sound doesnt happen when the car is cold.

As suggested, it's time to drain the oil and see if there are any tell tale signs of a problem. If not, bang your fist on the bottom of the oil pan and see if you hear anything bouncing around...

This is my plan... drain oil and then remove pan... its a start and should be painless. Problem is that I have to wait til the weekend and need to still drive the car in the mean time... Depending on how it does this afternoon I might try hard to find a way to not have to drive it anymore and just tear it apart tomorrow. I'm anxious to get to the bottom of this and get things back to normal again.

X2 on both parts. I recently bought a car with a suposed rod knock and blown clutch. Turns out the motor was perfectly fine, just some loose springs bouncing around the bellhousing. Being I already had the motor out and appart I had the rods resized with ARP bolts, crank ppolished, pistons hung and everything ballanced. I've got over 2k into my basicly stock rebuild by the time I had it back together and driving.

Do people know how woman really drive? Or take care of their cars for that matter? I always get a laugh about the woman owner thing when trying to sell stuff.

I've seen some women do some crazy stuff. More often than not it seems that general preventative maintenance is just not important enough for them to make time in their day.
Seen a woman never change the oil not once in a honda... its amazing how many miles she made it before needing to buy a new motor (but she sold the car instead).
I see them ignore check engine lights all the time without ever bothering to find out why the light is on...
Seen them turn up the radio to ignore the sound of their flat tire and now they are riding on the rim but still havent figure out whats going on besides that there was some bad sound that they had to drown out...
Maybe we should start a thread with the things you've known a woman to do with her car. I know there are plenty of guys who do dumb things too, but sometimes its intentional instead of accidental.

I cannot wait til I have a chance to investigate this... I swear the car is better today than yesterday.... This morning it was scary to drive, but this afternoon and tonight it seemed a lot better and even different. I want to pull my hair out because not knowing is killing me.

It's probably a bad lifter, a rod knock doesn't get better.
