Default Spool for 97 Z28

I'm looking at redoing my rearend with new gears, seals, bearing, and going with a spool but I am having trouble finding a spool for the stock axel sizes? I've never had the rear end apart but I have read that the stock axel for a 97 Z is 28 spline.

I am seeing spools for 28 spline axels but I can't seem to find any to fit the stock 10-bolt or at least list that they fit.

So basically does anyone know of a good spool that will fit in the stock carrier with stock axels?

Thanks in advance!

Probably because our rear ends are pretty weak. The little 7.5 ring and pinon wont handle much power.

Why do you want a spool? Your car going racing on a dirt track or something? ?

Get a better/stronger rear like a 12 bolt, Ford 8.8 or 9" or the S60/Dana 60 otherwise you're just throwing money away modding the stock rear.

Putting a spool on a stock rear is a terrible idea. Upgrade to a 12-bolt, 9" or S60 first...

They put a mini-spool in "Dirty Bird" in this months issue of GMHTP.

Just dont do this if you drive it on the street much and also still know that its just land mine waiting for you to put your foot down one day and boom.

This isn't going to be a daily driver by any means. It's a strip/street car and the only reason I am doing it this way is because I don't have the money at the moment for a good 9 inch or dana. I don't really want to go with a mini spool as those are pretty weak themselves.

Also the clutches are going out in my posi which is why I am even doing this. Sucks when you launch and one tire starts spinning. Doesn't work to well for bracket racing.

I know i'll get flamed for even messing with the stock rear but it's what I have to work with at the moment so i'll make it work for as long as I can.

A spool is going to mean c-clip eliminators and probably cutting off the bearing bores on the housing ends.
By the time you buy a spool and c-clip eliminators you are probably approaching the cost of a new posi or the like. Want to to stay budget look for a decent used stock posi.

All that said I thought the f-bodies got a wormgear posi not a clutch style.

Depending on the street rubber a spool will tear stuff up on the street, if running a street/strip tire it is fine but run a lowish profile performance tire with a stiff sidewall and things will chatter and bang and generally not be good.

I've driven with a spool for 6 years now, with mainly Hoosier tires and sometimes regular street tires on the salad shooters. I've never experienced this chatter and bang stuff that you talk about. The tires simply scrub. You don't feel it at all at speeds over 10mph. At very slow speeds at very sharp angles you can hear the tire struggle and skip a little.

I think only the Torsens had worm gears whereas the Auburn and Eaton stuff have clutches?

I have been in a b-body with 255/50/ZR17 rubber and it is UGLY at low speeds even damaged a c-clip eliminator, same car felt fine on drag rubber, but then another friend's Chevelle with some basic 15" BFG street rubber was not so bad. So like I said it depends on the rubber.

I thought the 4th gen got Zexel Torsen posis which is why I said I thought they got worm gear.
