First time at the 1/8th mile - Times inside
Hey guys, so I did my first passes ever on a track the other day
Car is completely stock except for:
Procharger d1sc - made about 4psi at 5k rpm
Air to water intercooler
Longtubes/magnaflow exhaust
I have a big stereo system that i left in the car for the races because i was still at work until just before, so i know I have at least 50 lbs of unnecessary weight in there, and the car still has full interior, its my DD afterall.
On stock BFGoodrich tires I managed a best 9.569 at 78.5 mph. And my best 60 foot was 2.456, and a reaction time of 0.659.
I know those reactions arent great, but i was wondering how the 60 foot was on those tires? I figure i could cut some sub 2.4s with a decent tire.
But for a first time out i felt pretty good about it! How do you figure did?

Yeah, i defiantly dont have much seat time at all. I didn't get a solid launch ever, either span it out or bogged. Mind you these are on bald stock tires, so i wasnt expecting great launches at all. When going from the light id tend to either roll through and red light, or id roll back and unstage. And when id go to heel some brake id mess everything up really bad, so this was forsure a problem. any suggestions? Also the track is on a bit of an incline, so times are always a bit slower there, and at 5200 feet. But not so much about that, more concerned about getting some good launches.
Next time i go I think im going to run my other set of tires. I have some goodyear eagle F1 GS-D3, but they are on 18inch chrome rims.

My stock '08 Silverado with a 5.3 runs 60-foot times in the 2.4 range. as others said, seat time, and probably some tires. A 78.5 mph run should put you somewhere in the high 8's.

my biggest advice is not to worry about reaction time. let the lights go and sit there and actually think about what your doing. Your at test and tune, not heads up racing for a cash prize. Being to eager to launch will get you in trouble. Stage, let the lights do there thing, watch them, but dont race the tree. Getting consistant launches, while being able to log how you launched is way more important. Doing it slow enough to remember what you did so the next time you can try something different. Dont look up and see the lights go and mash the pedel just because its green. People wont care if you sit there for 1-3 seconds getting your head straight on how you want to launch. Even trying to race the car in the next lane to prove something can get you in trouble on the launch.
Is the car a 6 speed or auto?
you deffinetly need some tires.

Terrible times, keep working on it though! Is the car tuned at all?Hows the fuel system? Why only 4psi ?
In my experience I had an ls1 f-car w/ longtubes, 3000 vigilante,tune, LCA's
8.1-8.3's all day ..7.6's on a little spray... Now the 383 lt1 I haven't tested at the track yet.. Still hammering out the tune.. And trans issues..
Get some tires, tuning and BOOST that turd.

Trilkb - Thank you for the advice, ill be sure to try that next time! There arent to many race tracks around here, and the test and tune days only happen once a month for about 4 months a year, so i dont get to many consistent chances to practice, but that sounds like a good method
The car is a 6 speed. My shifts are not bad, its just the launch. The tree is instant green so it doesnt give you too much time to set up if you dont know what youre doing (aka me)
Car has a mail order tune, not to many people around here are willing to tune a stock computer (OBD1 swap from mad tuner)
The fuel system is a single walbro 255 ho, and 42# injectors, and it seems to be in the right AFR when im giving it. Im only spinning it up to 5k rpm, and only 4 PSI because its my daily and I need it to last a bit, university student (broke) so the boost wont be going up too much anytime soon.

First time out on the track with my SS I was up against my brother-in-law in his '90 XR7 which did mid 14's. It was when my car was brand new and it seemed to peak the interest of many there. I blazed the track doing something like a 15.9 @ 90mph with a very high 2.9999 60' time, if not worse. Got laughed at pretty good for that one. Even on street tires you should be able to improve your times dramatically with enough runs. We all have to start somewhere.

With a 60' that bad, you cant really take any of that info to the bank. So dont be discouraged, just get some better tires and head back out there. with a similar 60' or 2.466 and a mostly stock car I went 9.8 @ 76.42mph (one of my first runs if not THE first), so on the plus side the supercharger is adding horsepower. 4psi isnt doing much but it is doing something lol.

Is 5k an appropriate rpm to be shifting at? I know the boost isnt really helping me too much overall pullied that low, but i do get some good gas mileage.
I didnt know the tree worked like that though, so as long as i dont care about beating the person next to me, i can sit there as long as I want, ant it doesn't time till i cross the staging line?

if your having problems with rolling at the line you might look into getting a line lock as well. just keep workin at it and take some advice and find what works best for you.

damn, shifting at 5000rpm says alot, no wonder your times and mph are so slow. I was thinking to myself even if he lowers to a 2.0 thats still a 13.5-13.6, which is VERY slow for a supercharged car even with only 4psi.
Is the car tuned for the supercharger?
Id aim to shift at 5800. which is more like 6000 all said and done.

The car is tuned
In all honesty...im just worried about it blowing up. It is my daily afterall. Next time I go ill try and get a good launch, and shift more around 5500 or up.
Stock dont they come into red around 5200? And I thought there was a good reason for that, something about float? Thats why I was iffy about going further, being a stock boosted motor im worried enough about it as it is.

Wow, that sounds rough.
I remember my first time to a local 1/8th mile track (literally just street, no prep) and stall launched on Sumitomo tires... Yeah, ran about the same times you did lol

keep in mind guys with a 5200ft elevation his number will be no were close to what most people run. and i am sure his corrected altitude is worse than 5200ft. with some seat time and better tires you should be able to trim some time off those numbers.
