Default Can a stock 35k mile Corvette LT1 hold up to a procharger?

My buddy has a 95 Z28 with an intercooled pro charger kit. I am not to sure what pulley or model but I know the kit has twin high flow intercoolers. He just picked up an LT1 from a mid 90s Corvette with 35k miles to swap in his Camaro. Can the Corvette LT1s stock internals hold up the boost? Its a Sunday car that wont be drag raced but im sure he will get on it here and there.

Id sell the kit for $4000 and buy a heads/cam package for $2000 and put the other $2000 on one hand of blackjack.

With perfect tuning and some supporting mods like fuel pump and injectors, it could last a while on low boost. IMO it wouldn't be worth it.

Not all Corvettes in the 90's were LT4s.

Does it have an FMU? if so It will live with that and a good pump and the right plugs until you can get it tuned.

This , and it is a vett 4bolt main block too boot! It's life will be in the fuel capabilities and the tune. Totally doable and safe on 6# , 8# too but pushing it.. My 2cent.

The 4-bolt mains won't help it live atall because that is not the weakest link and that is the only difference in a "vette" motor from an f-body of the same year.
So that raises the question of why he wants to put the "Vette" motor in?

A better question is can he afford to rebuild it if it goes boom?

In any case, good tune and all that and it will probably last but there are no guarantees. Extra insurance would be dropping the compression with different heads and/or thicker gaskets.

not worth it. heads n cam can take you to 400rw and be kinda reliable. 6lb should make around 400rw but it could pop anyday.

you could say the same thing with putting a cam in a older, hi mileage car too. but the chance of blowing it under boost is way way greater.

head and cam cars are great. but to compare a boosted to a NA isnt apples to apples. A boosted car will make a tremendous amount of torque across the entire rpm range. As the saying goes hp sells cars, torque wins races.

Whats the old saying, A bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush.

keep the supercharger , get it tuned, have an extra block with stock crank, a good set of rods and some forged pistons put together waiting for the day.

I would tend to agree with the idewa of seeing through what you have.

That said boost on a completely stock engine wont make a lot of power and wont make enough torque to have you winning a lot of races. You will get a nice boost in power without any change to low speed manners though.

Thank you for all of your input everyone!

The car was bought complete with the pro charger kit on it and the stock LT1 blown at a very inexpensive price. The Corvette LT1 was purchased at a very inexpensive price as well. Money is not the issue here but the thought of do we just throw the stock Corvette motor in or put forged parts in it. We are looking for reliability on a Sunday driven car that can handle the power when needed from time to time. It does have bigger injectors and an upgraded fuel pump as it was installed with the pro charger kit.
