Since I'm not that technical what does mean the above quote exactly ?

I had the heads put together by Lloyd Elliot so I don't think there is anything I should worry about there but does it has something to do with deck height , push rods , cam specification etc. ?

This motor was machined and put together by a local shop here and I think their works is well done too.

I drove about 20,000 KM before 1st faillure .

While proper setup height certainly is important it does NOT explain all instances as we are seeing professionally setup heads break the PAC beehives. Also like I said I saw a second set break at half the mileage, same cam but the second set was nitrided. To me that almost has to be a wire QC issue, for a nitrided spring to break in half the use.

Funny how a false prophet wildly missuses(square lobes) the Comp 918 contributing greatly to the number of failures of those we saw and Comp gets 100% of the blame but then another company has things setup by more competent people and the springs could not possibly be the cause.

On the Comp thing their failure rate had climbed when they switched from PAC as a supplier to someplace in I think South America, there was a genuine problem there but those who had bad cams just wanted to blame Comp no matter what.

I am a lab technician that tests products, mainly appliances, for safety and compliance to all types of standards. These spring failures should be caught in a lab. These companies should have fixtures setup to test these springs, in coil bind, high RPM, high temperature...etc. Either they are not testing these springs right or they are failing in the lab and they just don't care because they are saving money using cheaper grade wire.

I'm not blaming anyone on this failure but PAC Racing has contacted me and they want to have both springs for inspection.

I'm sending them Monday morning.

I think it is important for them to make sure it is not a spring quality issue .

Like other member said maybe it is my setup too so we'll see .

Right now I'm working on pulling motor and transmission out.

Not to mention I checked the installed height of my springs and they were all pretty much exactly the same, within a few thousanths. You can't beat that kind of QC on a set of heads for the average joe.

In all likelyhood PAC will take one look say "they were wore out, buy a more expensive spring".
Such an explanation doesn't reason well with guys replacing springs and getting half the life from the second set.

Sorry to see this happen man. That is the very reason we do not use nor recomend single springs of any type in a performance application. No safety net at all. At least with a damper or duel/tripple spring you will pick up the miss before the engine comes un glued

It's a bit sad that I have to do all that work because of a valve spring .

I had no major plan for this winter and I had no extra money for any kind of modification for this winter.

Love the flooring. I want to do something like that with mine. If I may ask, how much did it cost? Is that a two car garage?

Garage is 20'X20' and you'll get more info about the tile here.

Thanks. I've pretty much made up my mind to do something like that and have come to the conclusion of regardless what I go with it's going to be bloody expensive.

You have way more square foot that I do so yes what ever you do will cost but you'll never regret it I'm sure.

I was on bare concrete before so it was dusty like hell and almost impossible to clean.

Does the rubber flooring absorb sound? That'd be a nice perk as well.

Have you pulled up any squares after a fluid dump to be sure there isn't nastiness underneath? How do the engine hoist and stands roll on it?
Building this tapped the budget for awhile but I do want to plan for a nicer floor, the sealer the concrete guy put on(without asking) is junk and only going to make it harder for me to recoat it. a floating tile system would be easiest.

That is 28x32 10ft walls and cathedral ceiling so I will have all the lift room I could want if I can ever afford one.

One thing I am concerned about is getting a rubber floor and jackstands cutting into it.
