Yes , that is the fun part , you can replace ( or lift ) just one tile if you want .

Copy and paste from a local thread to me .

( Too lazy to chose the pictures )

Sunday Nov. 25th 2012 the motor is now on the stand ready for tear down.

2 Days off = Lots or quality time in the garage.

My new transmission carrier .

Out of my way .

Not too sure what to think of that yet .

I need to buy something so the chain can swivel .

This floor is not the best if you roll heavy stuff on it.
I had to pull some weight off the wheels to move it around ( with tie-downs ) .
2 person would be perfect but I was by myself on this.

Final rest .

I love this "Walmart" style rolling shelf .
It's very easy to move around.

Empty

This is it for this week end.

If I'm lazy like last week I will not work much on the car this coming week.

Looks about how my SPEC3 was after I pulled it, mine had a bit more wear on the flywheel side.

Love the pictures!! but pull that head!

One of my buddies busted a pac 1518 on his ls1 a couple years ago running texas speeds 233 239 .595 .603 lift in the exact position, he broke it in the same fashion as well just cruising around town. Ended up bending the valve and dinging the piston. He now runs duals

Saturday Dec 1st 2012.

Tear down :

Like you can see I was starting to have some "Blow BY" if you look at the pistons you'll see they are washed on the edge.

Foot prints of the valve hitting the piston.

and here we have what I called " the cherry on the cake" .

The valve did slam on the cylinder wall more then once.....

Since I'm already at .040" over my block is pretty much shot...

What did you have into the block? If it was just line honed and bored you aren't really out that much, if it was aftermarket caps then yeah that starts to suck more.

Is the rest of your house this nice? I can't stop looking at how clean and organized you are! I would never leave the garage. Sorry to see what happened, been there myself.

Do we all agree that those scars seems pretty deep ?

Someone suggested me something last night and I think it sounds like a good idea.

He is selling me a complete stock bore LT1 core and he said send your old block to a machine shop and he will prepare the new block , bore it 0.040" , put new rings and new main bearings etc. and thrown the whole rotating assembly that is perfectly balance at "0" in it.

I like the idea .

Is it something that can be done ?

If you're getting a replacement standard bore block I would bore it the minimum to clean it up that way you have room to overbore it in the future. Sure you'd need new pistons but the one that smacked the valve should probably be replaced anyways.

Random pics. from Sunday afternoon Dec. 2nd 2012 :

Builder had to grind the head cause it was hitting the pan.

It is stroked

The wear you see is 2 season ( around 20,000 KM ) .

From what we all see this motor doesn't look like it needed a rebuilt.

This is how the pick up tube wasat once.......

Looks like this is nothing unsual here , they most likely all do that at one time or another .

Look how much lower the pick up is when the tube is there :

This is where I'm at .
