No, it is not new. I figured I would be ok since I'm running a coil per cylinder ignition (LTCC). Just need it for the sensor.

What do you think? Would I be ok?

How many miles on it?

Edit: Just make sure the bearing on the opti is ok. And since you're using the LTCC I've heard some taking off the rotor since it's not used.

Im guessing its higher mileage. If it were the original opti, its got over 100k on it.

I would definitely check the bearing on the opti then. I always over think things but high rpms+old opti=death. Plus not to mention it's a PIA installing one of those things, especially a non vented opti, while the engine is in the car!

See if someone is selling a recently used MSD 93-94 opti for a good price. Their ball bearings are good up to 10,000 rpm.

I am actually running a vented opti. 97 drivetrain.

That looks bad! But I would consider changing the opti if you can. Its worth the money to buy it now and not have to do all that work once you get it in.

I may do that. Its not too hard to replace when there aren't any wires running to it, is it? I'm nearing the limit on my budget for this build so if it can wait, I'll wait.

Correcto! Change it while you still have motor on a stand. Replacing it later means draining some coolant, removing water pump, etc. IMO.

What's up with the waterpump drive? I'd seal that timing cover up for good and throw that **** the **** away or sell it to some poor soul. All in all looks like a nice combo of parts. Changing the opti with an electric waterpump and what looks like an ati superdamper is easy as ****. You don't need a puller, just your hands. If anything, I'd pull the rotor and run it as is. You can always go back and change it later easily.

I run this setup as well and it is rather easy to get the opti on and off at will.
