Default LS1 lid and hood choice.

Now that my car is done and my lid swap is complete I'm not completely happy with how tight it is with my SS hood. I'm going to look at picking a VFN Sunoco bolt on hood later this summer. What I'm curious of is, has anyone ran that hood, or what other cowl hoods are y'all using that don't require trimming, or very minimal trimming?

I did the LS lid as well and switched over to a VFN wide sunuco hood. It will still need some clearancing, so I had them do the needed clearancing during the molding process. Talk to Jeanie@VFN she'll get you set up.

The lid is well worth it honestly, I was looking at the 2.5 cowl hood but was not sure on clearance. Plus after seeing the VFN hood, I know what I want lol. I'll post a pic of how mine is trimmed and you should be able to tell if yours will work.

word thanks i really want to do this, it makes engine bay look cleaner, also ten times easier to replace/clean filter the cowl is wide, and i can tell there is more clearance unfortunatley i just dont know anyone around with one laying around i could try to see if it fits haha

I also did this on the regular (short) Sunoco bolt on hood, so it will work on both the wide and regular. I should be picking mine up later this week.

seen that thread no one really mentioned if the harwood worked, other then the 4 inch hood which i do not have ahah, seems a lot of these hoods need to be trimmed or the rad support which im not about especially since there is no bracing on the harwood hood anyways

The one regular Sunoco hood from VFN can be ordered to fit without trimming. I just ordered mine that way. If you call and talk to Jean about mine or Butch's hood she will be able to tell you the same. Butch had them change the mold a little on the wide version and I had them do it on the regular version. Both of which were the bolt in style.

x2 ^ I don't really have to replace my ss hood, but I love the way the VFN looks.

VFN didn't charge me a penny extra for the modified mold. I was and am more than exstatic to pick it up this week. Once I do, I will gladly post photos.

Awesome, I can't wait to get the money saved up for one of their hoods myself. Make the car stand out a little more than the SS hood does.

Here is how my hood is trimmed right now, and it's an aftermarket SS hood. It's a super tight fit and will work, but I want to swap it out still.

I should not I also cut my core support to set the filter down in, without the filter basket. I need to make brackets to hold the radiator just to be safe, but it does not move at all as it is.

Finished installing the LS1 lid w/ ram air. Test fitted the hood, PERFECT clearance! Nothing is touching the lid and radiator support. Very happy and satisfied with VFN's customer support/service.
